I can't believe I'm confused by this, as I've had Crohn's for so long, but I always second guess myself thinking that maybe I'm overreacting.

I spoke to my doc on Monday, and he took me off the methotrexate (per my request) and started me on entocort (budesonide). I also take Humira weekly. The reason I talked to my GI was because I've been having more and more pain. So the pain is getting more frequent and worse.

Until today, I've been having BMs around 7-15 times per day, mostly all liquid. I was awoken around 1:30AM last night by extreme pain. I thought I was dying. I went to the bathroom, and all I was able to do was pass gas. But that made it feel better. However, a half hour later, same pain. It was on and off all night, only passing gas, no BM, even though I felt like I needed to go. It is now after noon, and still no BM, only passing some gas here and there, but still having pain off and on. Not as extreme as last night all the time, but enough to stop what I'm doing when it strikes. The pain is in what I call my "Crohn's spot", in the lower right quadrant.

Should I be concerned that I haven't had a BM since yesterday? I know for a "normal" person, that would be a no brainer, but I can't remember the last time I felt like this, that I felt the need to go, but only could pass gas. Of course, I worry that this could be the start of an obstruction, but could it also be constipation? Or am I over reacting?

Thanks for any advice or help.

Definitely not overreacting. Last year, I had a period of time where I thought I was constipated. Was actually enjoying the reprieve from diahhrea. Then after a several months of only going every 3-5 days, I started with a tummy ache. No place specific...just the whole tummy area ached. After a week of this I broke down and went to the doc.

Guess what?! I had an abscess and a micro-perforation! They immediately admitted me to the hospital and loaded me up with super antibiotics. Shortly thereafter, I had my colon resection.

So to answer your question, call the doc. With our crazy colons better to be safe than sorry!

Passing gas is a good sign. As far as I know, you can't pass anything with an obstruction. So, give it another day or so before panicking. However, like Deborah said, a call to your GI couldn't hurt.

Keep us posted.

I called my GI. He sent me to the emergency room. He knows I hate the ER and he apologized profusely. So after an night at the ER, my CT shows no changes since July. WTF? I have been on Humira and Methotrexate since then, and there is no change? At least there was no obstruction and no abcess. They sent me home after some morphine and I'm waiting for my doc to call back. Thank goodness I have such a great GI.

On the upside, I got to spend a lot of one on one time with my husband, something that we never seem to get anymore. So there is always something left in the glass when it is mostly empty:tongue:
