OK not to go for a day or two?

My 14 year old DD was just diagnosed 5 months ago and had a resection about 2-1/2 months ago. Before she was diagnosed, she had the constipation symptoms of Crohn's. Sometimes she didn't go for 5-6 days (she didn't tell me that until after diagnosis!). Since her resection and starting Remicade, she's had a bowel movement every day. Some days she doesn't go until later at night and some days it's a bit harder for her to go. Miralax doesn't work for her but she takes Colace twice a day when she starts to feel constipated. My question is.....is it ok if she doesn't have a bowel movement for a day or two (with no fever, pain, cramping, nausea,etc.). On days when she doesn't go until later or it's hard for her to go she gets VERY nervous. She has anxiety issues anyway but they REALLY ramp up when she has issues with going to the bathroom!

Ds has constipation with crohns as well
Takes miralax daily
And he still has a day or two without a bm if his diet /humira/illness/because it's Tuesday
His Gi is ok with two days but the evening of day two I am to increase his miralax and if nothing by day three we are to call

Ds has rectal prolapse when he flares so we always keep things soft and at least once a day

My younger daughter tends toward constipation and often goes three days without a bm with no symptoms of a blockage.

My older daughter presented with severe diarrhea so when she skipped a day I was on edge. Our doc doesn't get concerned until day 3 or if there are other symptoms.

I hope this is just one if those blips. Have her make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids. Is she on low residue diet? That can sometimes complicate matters.

Good luck! It sounds like you have a good handle on things

S has Crohns and constipation. His GI is OK if he doe not have a BM for 2 to 2.5 days. We are always asked to report if he feels nauseous, or if he has pain during BM. We usually do not need a laxative, and if he skips a day he has 2 or 3 BMs the next day.

My kiddo is the same - constipation with Crohn's. She used to not go for several days at a time. Now that she is on Miralax daily, things are better and it's unusual for her to not go every day.

We don't worry until we get to the 3 day mark and then if increasing Miralax doesn't work, we let her GI know, who then typically has us try a different laxative.

I hope she goes soon and feels better :ghug:!
