otc vaginal meds?

Warning guys!
I have a white type of discharge and my vag is swollen and itchy. Is there something good otc or should i call the Dr for a script? Any advice welcome. And ever since having crohns do you gys get this way? It seems never ending!

Sounds like a yeast infection of sorts. If I remember correctly, some medications can make you more prone to having them such as immunosuppressive drugs, oral contraceptives, Prednisone and antibiotics. Even having a suppressed immune system can make you more prone to having one. http://www.medicinenet.com/yeast_vaginitis/article.htm That link also contains the names for treatment meds if you go to the next couple of pages.

Over the counter treatments could be used if it is in fact a yeast infection but if its not then you're just wasting your time and money. Seeing a doctor would be a good idea and then you could get a script for the medication that you take once by mouth (I forget the name of it but it worked for me in the past and you don't have to deal with those creams or fluid filled pills for days that just drip out anyway, gross).

Agree with Crabby, probably best to see the doc. But if you can't for some reason, or have a long wait, I think the OTC treatment that is quite good is Canistan? There's a tablet to take and a topical cream.
Hope you feel better soon - it's maddening, isn't it.

You want clotrimazole cream or pessary ( also known as canesten). In the uk you can get a stat oral tablet of fluclonazole that works well (150mg tab)

Hi XO,

I had this when my mouth blistered completely, from having one huge blister to a complete mouthful of blistered and loosening skin overnight.complete agony and it is from the medication, thrush, candida it is called many things.

My Advice get to the doctors or hospital actually would be better, you know the rest, explain crohns blah de blah blah.

Best of luck

Canesten HC is the best, but only on prescription.
It contains 1% Hydrocortisone and Clotrimazole 1%
The OTC Canesten Duo with a tablet is expensive and will work if you have thrush, but the Hydrocortisone in Canesten HC is for inflammation and will reduce it quicker. It can also be used for hemmies and any swelling due to tissue damage.

Thanks guys! I called the gyno but she always takes forever to call back bc her office is always packed ugh. May end up going to er since they know my history and can go from there. It's always ongoing huh lol
