After my 2nd resection I got a percutaneous abscess of 23 cm located near the anastomosis or reconnect site. Radi put in a p-drain.

Size: 23 cm
Initial drain volume by doc: 900 ml
Time in: 37 days and counting
Daily drain: 50-75ml

Started thick, then thick and smelly, now watery and less smell

Anyway to guess how many days left until it drains less than 10-20 ml / day?

I'm guessing 45??? It's very uncomfortable

Good lord! That's one hell of an abscess! :yfaint:

My son had a percutaneous drain, pigtail variety, in for 3 months but his abscess and drainage was minute compared to yours!

No guesses here cause I know I'll lose!

Hi All,

Very frustrated now. It's been 46 days. No stricture according to 2 abdominal cts with dye and 1 radi study with dye injected into drain.

I made an excel sheet. And I have drained 3.7 liters or 3700 ml or CC in last 46 days.

I hope this thread can help others. Since it seems it's the only pad experience on the net.

I have learned from reading studies that size can be calculated by

WxHxDx.53 or with my calc volume of a globe

PI x r x r x r where r is radius for worst case

Taking the latter in mind it comes to 5.5 days more. I will post results later

For the last couple weeks it has been less odor and very watery. At first it was a tad less thick than V8

It is painful when the tube gets twisted outside my skin or a get a cramp from the inner tube

God help me

Here is an update if anyone cares. I went in to have the abdcess surgically drained A surgical sponge was found that was left inside my body. It caused all the problems.

Still sick and still damaged from the foreign body.

Oh my God, I am so sorry that they left a sponge inside of you! How awful! Are they removing it ASAP?!

I had a big abscess after my last resection--the surgical site opened up and drained into my abdomen. I can't even look at certain medical supplies like Tegaderm without feeling like I'm going to pass out. That was a horrible experience. My heart goes out to you!
