My tonsils are inflamed, hurts to swallow and full of white spots. I'd really rather not take an anti-fungal but I'm afraid with a compromised immune system. Anyone beat this while on immune suppressants without meds?

I am reading that it can get out of hand and spread to the esophagus and intestines. Have had thrush many times but not this bad on the tonsils.

I feel your pain, I developed thrush all around my mouth a couple of months ago. I did end up having to treat mine with antibiotics which helped it clear up within 5 days without any problems, but if you wanted to find another way to deal with it, you could possibly try natural yoghurt? That's supposed to be good for clearing thrush.

Hope you feel better soon!

Psycho it looks like that and I can't think of any infection that does that. I'm on antibiotics now for weeks and have it so it makes sense.

Amanda thank you I'm having probiotics hoping to replenish the flora in my mouth. Yucky!

Swish and gargle with warm salt water several times a day. Also use listerine... I know this one doesn't feel good but a combination of using these 2 have always helped clear mine up.

Everytime I had to take flagyl and cipro I always got thrush... hated it so much

Also the warm salt water rinse is an old remedy for a sore throat, so that may help give a little relief for a bit.

If I were you, I would have it swabbed, just in case. Whenever I have gotten strep throat a few times before, and it looks how you described, very sore and white spots. If it is strep, you will likely need antibiotics

I'm on antibiotics for a few weeks now so id be shocked and disturbed if it was bacterial. I have been doing salt rinses and am going to the doctor probably will get those lozenges. Diflucan i think it's called.

Ugh, I hate thrush. I get it at least once a month, nasty stuff. The best thing I can tell you is to get the diflucan lozenges and pill, that should help clear it up pretty fast. If you get it often with antibiotics, you might want to take a preventative diflucan pill before taking antibiotics, that's what I do. Of course, thrush has a mind of it's own so who knows if that would be helpful for you.

Thanks guys dr took a culture it looks like strep but probably is thrush. I got some lozenges and he said It should clear in a few days.

Hi NGNG. strep is going around in my area. Hope you feel better soon.

I can understand why you suspected thrush considering you are on antibiotics. I would deal with it too in these conditions and it would rarely clear (without taking systemic diflucan). Lozenge would help but it would keep coming back until I was over with the antibiotics in my case.

There are certain type of food that might help too.

I hope the lozenges will do the trick for you!
