Hi everyone, so my recovery from two small bowel resections has been hampered by what seems to be paralytic ileus. Yesterday morning I felt awful and threw up a tonne of water and bile so had an ng tube put in. I managed to pull it out in my sleep so the nurses figured let's see how it goes without one. Sure enough the nausea came back so they put one in quickly but just as it got in and they aspirated I threw up more bile. I'm about to start day 2 with the ng tube and I feel like my bowels will never work again. They need me to have a bowel movement but I'm not eating so how's that going to happen? I went to the toilet twice overnight but it was pretty much all fresh blood, not loads of it though. My mouth is bone dry because I can't drink much water otherwise I'll probably throw up, how do I quench my thirst?! Also a couple of days ago I'd passed some wind and had two BMs but we're both old blood so they think my bowels weren't really working. Please help guys and girls.

How long since the surgery? I threw up a couple of times in the days after, and constantly felt like my throat was full of bile and so was struggling to even sip water. But I found once I forced myself to eat something I started feeling a lot better and everything started working. It took me about 3 hours to get down one tuna sandwich, but the next day I was able to eat almost normally.

Walking does help too. Make sure you're doing that.

Hope it gets better quickly.

I'm on day 5. I'd actually had a few sips of soup on days 2/3 but then morning day 4 this all started. But yes I'm going to chew gum and walk more today.
