I have been on the pill for a couple of years because my periods have been really heavy and really painful. Infact, the were painful for a week and a half before my period, painful the week during my period and painful the week and a half after my period - so now i'm not thinking it was my period that was painful, just the IBD problems!

Anywho, i've been taking the pill for a couple of years but these last few months i've been bleeding every two weeks. I've just come on now (I shouldn't be on at the moment) and two weeks ago after my last period, I stopped taking the pill. It wasn't doing me any favours and obviously wasn't working. It worked to begin with but last several months it hasn't done anything. I'm still very heavy and the pain is still there - but as my theory above suggests, it's probably just the IBD.

But I was wondering why i'm on every two weeks. I'm 16, nearly 17 so it's definately not the menopause as google is suggesting! I was thinking it could be stress. Could it be linked to the IBD. One site said having a period every two weeks can be caused my IBD. So I thought i'd ask the experts :)

And the period every two weeks it the same heavyness and same length of time. It's not like every four weeks I get my 'normal' period and then the two weeks in between it's ligher - it's not :( lol

I know we talked about this in another thread but I thought we'd address it here too in case other people are having the same issue and are also looking for an answer.

What pill are you taking? Some just don't work as well as others (if you have lots of diarrhea, the pill doesn't work as well) and in your other thread there was mention of a safer pill for people to use who suffer from IBD (like the "mini pill" suggested by StarGirrrrl) but I don't know a lot about it. In the past I've taken Ortho Cyclen, Ortho Tri Cyclen and now I'm on Junel (which has removed my period entirely and I don't think its supposed to do that exactly but I see my GYN soon to make sure things are ok) and haven't had a problem like that with any of them. You need to see you gyn if you haven't already.

Hi. I have not experience a period every two weeks; however I'm surprised you can take a pill with estrogen. I know a lot of people with IBD (myself included) cannot take any BC with estrogen. Several years ago I tried to go from the Depo shot back to the pill (I didn't know then that I had CD). That was a disaster. I ended up with erythema nodosum and couldn't understand why. I went to several doctors before it was diagnosed correctly; and I was put on Prednisone to get rid of it. When I went back on BC I decided to go back on depo. I now haven't been on any BC for over a year (decided to go off when I got married) as I wanted my body to be ready when my husband and I decided we wanted children. Hope you and your doc are able to figure out why you are having a period every two weeks.
