Hi Everyone,
I have fantastic news. Caitlyn's pill camera showed no inflamation or issues. Everything looked perfect. Her doctor is very impressed with the LDN and has prescribed it for a few other patients to try. We discussed why she is still running to the bathroom after she is eating and she thinks it is two possible reasons. Firstly the pill camera went from her stomach to the cecum in half the normal time so she thinks she has increased motility. She wants to start her on lomotil twice a day to help slow things down. Caitlyn had a similar problem right after her resection but it seemed to have gotten better. The second thing she thinks might be going on is she told us that after a resection like Caitlyn had there is less room for the gut to produce the normal good bacteria we have in our body so she thinks she could have some overgrowth of abnormal bacteria. She said she wants to put her on a strong probiotic for one month. I think it is called VSL? She called it in and we have to go pick it up tomorrow. I have had Caitlyn on a probiotic but she forgets to take it a lot of times because it is in the refrigerator. We will have to be more strict about it. She said that the only way to test for the bacteria is another colonoscopy where they take biopsies. She did not think it was necessary to do she said it is the same treatment either way and a good probiotic cannot hurt. Overall a very good and positive visit. We did not get to see the pictures because of a computer issue but she is mailing us a CD of them.
I am doing a happy dance, now that we know Caitlyn's gut is doing well from top to bottom we have visualized the whole thing. Dare I say it? :ylol: She said we can call her in remission :)
I am sending happy thoughts and wishes to everyone here that your kids get into remission super fast! :thumright:

That's wonderful news! We didn't get to see any pictures either but I know A wants to ask for a copy at the next visit. Interesting keepsake I suppose, lol.

Oh Kim! This is just beyond awesome! I am thrilled for you guys. Also can I add thrilled as this is the second kiddo on LDN recently with such good results. We owe you pioneers so much! Thank-you!

Woohoo! I know exactly how you feel, I was doing the happy dance as well after Jack's scopes. Here's to LDN and a good long remission for both Jack and Caitlyn. (I'm doing the happy dance now):yoshijumpjoy:

I am sooooo happy for you and Caitlyn!!!!  Happy dance well deserved! :D

:thumleft: Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! :thumright:

What an absolute joy to read! So happy, happy, happy for you both! :mademyday:

I am so frustrated with our doctor. A week ago she was supposed to call in Caitlyn's prescription and I have called multiple times still not called in. Meanwhile Caitlyn is still running to the bathroom after she eats. :( I really hope this medication when it finally gets called in will help with the bathroom trips. If she is in remission she should be able to at least enjoy life and not spend so much time in the bathroom.

Glad to hear she looks good from top to bottom. That's great Kim!! Hope you get things slowed down in there...then smooth sailing it sounds like :)
Are her stools formed and not cramping? I hope so on that too

I hope the med comes on through and gets her back on track so she can enjoy that remission!!!

I find at our doctors details like calling through medication and chasing up insurance approvals are all done by the administrative staff. Not sure if it works where you are but here I generally find a phone call or quick visit to see the reception/admin people to ask where something is upto will generally get things back on track, because they're generally the people processing the paperwork anyway.

Spoke with her admin staff and they keep promising me it will be done! Still no scrip today. :( Caitlyn is at a youth group event this weekend. I hope she will be able to enjoy it without spending so much time in the bathroom. I am going to look through my medicine box and see if I can find some lomotil. I know she was prescribed it right after her surgery. I couldn't find it last time I checked but I am going to try again. I really want her to have a fun time and maybe make some new friends.

Hi all,
I wanted to apologize for not being around so much. Homeschooling and my own health issues have been keeping me very busy and exhausted. I want you all to know I am always thinking about you guys.
Anyway, two quick things, first of all guess who still has not called in Caitlyn's prescriptions? Yeah you guessed it.
Number two on a fun and positive note caitlyn has had her first story published. There is a homeschool newspaper called the circle gazette. If you go on the website and click on the spring issue. Go to page 9 to the bottom it is called she walks alone. I am so proud of her!

I've been thinking of you! Congrats to Caitlyn for having her story published!!!! :thumright:

But, so sorry you are STILL waiting for the script!! What could possibly be causing the delay?!?!? :ymad: Are they close to you? Can you just call them and say you will be stopping by to pick it up? Shouldn't have to do that but...:voodoo:

Just wanted to update. Caitlyn is doing well. She did have some bad joint pain this week. whenever it is that time of the month she gets bad joint pains and the usual stomach pain. But of course according to the rheumy crohns does not have a joint pain component. (ugh these doctors drive me crazy) Thank goodness it really seems related to it being that time of the month. Other than that she has been doing great. She is getting ready to go to summer camp. First for two weeks to a camp for kids with chronic and or genetic illnesses and then to regular camp. She went to the special camp for the first time last year and it was a great experience for her. She was able to meet some other girls with crohns disease and other illnesses and learned that she is not the only one who has challenges to cope with. The camp is part of a special organization for these kids and they have activities throughout the year as well that we have participated in as a family and it has been really great. Cailtyn is also very excited about next fall we have decided to organize a homeschool glee club and she is going to help organize and be in charge of it. We have really enjoyed homeschooling this year although we did not enjoy the program we used so much this year. Next year we are using a different approach which is called the Charlotte Mason curriculum. I have been doing a ton of research and preparation for next year. I am very excited and looking forward to it

Thanks for the update Kim! :):):)

It is brilliant to hear that Caitlyn is doing so well all fronts, how fab is that! :dusty:

I hope the camps go well and the homeschooling program this time round is a perfect fit. Good luck!

:mademyday:

I also hope that your own health is improving too hun.

So glad to hear things are going so well!!

I hope she has a fab time at both camps! Hope you are doing well too!

Thanks for all the well wishes! The packing has been nuts. These kids want to take everything but the kitchen sink with them! LOL.

Caitlyn went off to camp yesterday, before she left we double checked that she had everything. At 10 pm I get a phone call from the nurse to go over her medications again for the third time and something is missing but they are not sure what. I am like what about the LDN? The nurse is oh I don't have that one. I said I made sure and double sure that Caitlyn had it. She said I will send someone to her bunk. I did not hear back so I hope they straightened it out. I told them the LDN is the most important of all the medications. Teenagers!

Hi all, I have not heard a word from Caitlyn so I am hoping no news is good news. I have seen some camp photos and she looks like she is having a great time.
I want to apologize in advance if I am not around so much for the next month or so. I started working on a huge project with my girls before they left for camp and I am continuing it while they are in camp. I can't tell you all yet what it is except I am very excited about it. As soon as we finish it I will share it with you all. I can't wait! Think happy and good luck thoughts our way that it goes well!
I am trying to check in still every day or so to see how everyone is and sending hugs and well wishes to everyone!

Glad to hear she's having a good time Kim!! So...how long do you think we'll have to wait?:)

And we all know how good I am at waiting:whistleinnocently:

Hey farmwife make that a beefsteak tomato and you've got yourself a deal!

Can I add that I am honored that you are that excited to tell us! You like us! You really like us! :ghug:

Aw crohnsinstinct,
You all know how much I love you guys! Y'all are my second family! (Or is that just the red wine talking?)
Red red wine you make me feel so fine! You keep me rocking all of the time! (Bob Marley) :wine:

LMAO! First the Beatles "today's Your Birthday" and now Bob Marley...and it isn't even throwback Thursday!

Do I smell a new thread coming on?

The girls are away and Kim has broken out the wine...she ain't gettin' that project done anytime soon!!

Good luck with the project Kim! :goodluck::goodluck::goodluck:

And so fab to hear Caitlyn is having a fab time. :dusty::dusty::dusty:

Hi all,
Picked up Caitlyn from her first camp ( the one for kids with chronic illnesses) she had an amazing time. She had a girl in her bunk newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and another girl with Crohn's and cystic fibrosis. She had a great time. They had some amazing inspirational speakers come and speak with the kids. They did some really fun activities. Caitlyn was the star of the play. They put on Cinderella. ( which I never knew there was a musical Cinderella). All in all an amazing two weeks. Now she goes off to her regular camp which this is her seventh summer going to. I hope she will have agreat time there. Health wise, keeping my fingers crossed that she has been doing well.
About our project we are working on, Caitlyn is not happy with what I have done while she is away so it may take longer then I expected be ause she doesn't want me to work on it until she gets back from camp. As soon as she gives me the go ahead I will let you know more details. It really is her and my other daughters project so it is up to them. So the suspense will have to continue!

Just dropped her at camp #2. I miss her already. Of course there was a whole mix up with her meds but hopefully everything is straightened out! Hopefully she has a blast!
