Good afternoon everyone. My daughter's GI doctor would like to perform another upper and lower scope. She just had an mri done in December. Ifor you all would share your experiences with the pill cam procedure for you child, I really would appreciate it. I feel that she has gone through so much this past year.

Ask to have the pill cam placed during my the scope
Then she doesn't have to swallow it
No worries about it hanging out forever in the stomach
She will already be cleaned out
And she can wear the belt while your at the hospital ;)
Did this twice worked out well for ds

Good luck

It was pretty easy. My daughter swallowed the pillcam. It was big, but no bigger than some of the pills she's taken (about the size of Pentasa, if she's taken that).

Then my daughter wore the monitor for several hours. I can't remember how long. Her biggest complaint was that she was hungry. It was a pretty easy test.

Good luck!

Hi there, do not worry. It is a very easy test. You just swallow the pill, size of Pentasa, then wear a belt which records to a computer. You are given instructions as when to eat and drink. You are able to walk around wearing belt. Wishing your child well again soon.

Are they going to do a dummy pill before they do the real one? They usually do - my daughter did. It dissolves if it gets stuck. And if it goes through, then you know it's ok to use the real pill cam.

Alternatively, they might do an MRE or small bowel follow through to check for strictures. If your daughter has had either of those tests recently, they may think that is enough info to do the pill cam.

It's a safe and very good test - it's the only one that lets them "see" the inside of the small bowel - whether there are ulcers etc.
