So after waiting best part of 6 months I finally have apt for Monday for colonoscopy! My Gp is convinced I have Crohn's and after seeing a private consultant in dec who agreed I have since been presvribed prednisone (once in feb) and ive been on salofalk three times. Each time I cone off salofalk symptoms return gradually. I have recently been on salofalk but stopped it on 7th june. At the moment I still feel good, symptoms not too bad.

So I am nervous because what if I go through all of this and there is no inflammation because of salofalk?
What if they find nothing?
What if it's inconclusive?

Please help !!

I understand where you are coming from. They usually take biopsies while they are in there, so hopefully those will show the disease. If your dr was already thinking Crohns I would think they would still...it is common for people to go in and out of remission and for the inflammation to move.

Are they going to do any tests to look at the small intestine?

dont worry, the good news is : You respond to Salofalk!!!, which is the less toxic and first line medication for IBD. we know some people have to wait months before having a colonoscopy or see a GI doctor, so your GP has been pretty proactive! when you tell all the story details to your GI, he/she will know how to handle things and fallow you. make sure you explain everything before the colonoscopy. they will mostly advise to maintain salofalk treatment and not stop it. when something works, you maintain it! let us know how it goes.

From my understanding a colinoscopy is used to check for visual signs of ulcerative colitis, which generally (not always!) resides in the colin, gastroscopy is used to determain crohns, which can effect anywhere from the mouth right thru to the anus, in either case a biopsy is taken, and its actually the biopsy resaults that determain whether you have either of the diseases, you will get a positive or negative resault whether inflammation is present or not. Without a visual, inflammation can be determained by markers in a blood test, however inflammation can be caused by many different things, thats why a colinoscopy/gastroscopy is performed to obtain the biopsy needed to confirm whats actually causing the inflammation.
I wish you luck! Chill out, take it easy! Either disease is not the worst, so long as you know about it, so you can manage it, its when you dont know about it that things can go really wrong! Please let me know how things go.

Thank you all for replying : ) you have reassured me and I feel better and more positive now. I don't really know exactly what they are doing. I just had a letter with date and info on colonoscopy. I will let you know hiw it goes. Just the bowl prep to go now!! Any tips? X

Prep is the worst!!!!!!! Procedure is easy, done it several times myself, just follow the directions strictly, drink heaps of water, flush your system out the best you can, because they really need to see as clear as possible, and when its over, just LOVE that solid food!
I always get Mc D on the way home, Dont even really like Mc D, but I do then!! lol.
