Hi. I'm new to this. I need help though. I have had cd since 93. I had a colon resection at the time and have been mainly healthy every since. Although about 4 months ago I started getting little pIns in my upper left Abdomen. Now for the past 3 months I've had more severe pain here along with pain in my pelvic area. Also for the past 3 months I've had very thin flat poop every time I have a solid movement. There is alot of mucus and some times a little blood. I go about 4 to five times a day. 2 are solid flat skinny and the other 2 or 3 are watery with mucus. I have also been very tired lately and sleep a lot more. I also have a feeling in my anus like I have to poo all the time. The feeling actually gets worse after I go. I just would like to know if this is common. I'm 32 and like I said have not had any problems since 93 when I was 14. Any help would be very much appreciated.

:welcome: to the forum! It sounds like you are narrowing or spastic colon or both. Pencil like is a sign of narrowing somewhere. You should be tested for low B12 and Iron levels as a resection can stop absorption of both. You had a good bout of remission, the problem is with this disease you never know when or where it could pop up. I would go see your Gi as soon as possible and if you start to vomit, and acute pain I would go to ER, that is a partial blockage. Hope you get relief soon, dont let it go without treatment, catch it now.

I agree with Pen and if you don't currently have a GI since you're an adult now and probably can't see your old GI (assuming they were a pediatric doc) then go and see your regular General Practitioner and get a referral for a GI doc.

Were you on any maintenance meds after your resection? Sounds like a flare so get some blood work and other tests done (colonoscopy etc.) until you find the cause. Often times its the resection site that starts acting up again even after all these years. You'll likely start up on a new medication regimen once they get the results back from your tests (or prior since the wait time for certain tests can take a while so they may just go off of your blood work for now).

Let us know when you get to see a doctor and what they say. Welcome to the forum! :D Here's hoping you go back into remission soon.

Thank you for welcoming me here. I called this morning and made a app with a gi doctor. It's January 19th. I will post and let you know what they say. I guess if there are any more problems between now and then I will go to the er. My main concern was that when I looked online at my symptoms the main thing that kept coming up was colon cancer. I'm sure that's not what it is because of my age. I just don't remember to much about my symptoms because I was dx when I was14. Also when I was dx the doctor put me in a mental hospital because they thought I was anarexic and it wasn't until I was down to 50 pounds and throwing up feces that I was rushed to a normal hospital and had emergency surgery to remove 18 inches of intestine. I know they put me on steroids and iron and a few other things but I can't remember what they were. I have never been on any other meds for my cd and have never had any Problems with what I eat. 3 years ago I went to a gi doctor and told him I just wanted a check up and he told me he didn't think I had cd because how long I went with out trouble and that I had not been on meds for it. He did a colonoscopy and said I did have it and my cd was active. He put me on pentasa but it made me sick and I have not been back since. I know if there is a problem it's my fault for not taking better care of the situation.

Blaming yourself isn't going to help any so just be glad that you're taking a stand now before it gets too far out of hand. My first thought isn't colon cancer because I had mucus and a lot of bleeding when I was first diagnosed. Watch out for signs of a blockage and take good care of yourself. Here's a thread about people explaining what their blockage felt like if you aren't too sure what the signs are: http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=29625
