Friends-

I was diagnosed with Pneumonia last Wednesday and have been on high doses of antibiotics (2 g Rocephin injections Feb 26) and 750 mg Levaquin for 10 days (still taking). I'm scheduled to take a Humira injection tomorrow. I called the humira nurse line and they couldn't advise whether I should take my dose or not. I still have symptoms of Pneumonia...coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. No fever, though. I should mention that I'm also on prednisone (40 mg) and have been for a few weeks now.

I couldn't reach my Dr today to ask whether to take the Humira tomorrow. Opinions?

I would keep calling the office to demand to speak with them. I personally would hold off till the pneumonia passes. Feel better soon!

Have you had any labs done?

My son had pneumonia in November. It kicked off a reaction in his kidney's and caused blood in his urine so the GI ordered labs and we found that the pneumonia had suppressed his immune system. His neutrophil count was a 1 and his White blood cell count was a 2. He had to go off his meds for 2 weeks. The Dr. said that some viruses will attack the bone marrow. We would have had no idea if he wouldn't have ordered the labs because of the blood in his urine.

They performed a CBC last Wednesday and my Granulocytes were crazy high. White cells were elevated, but everything else was pretty normal. They attributed the WBC to Prednisone and the Pneumonia, and the Granulocytes indicate that it's bacterial. That's all we really know at this point.

I did talk to my GI today and he said to hold off on the Humira until my Pneumonia symptoms are over. I was back in urgent care again last night because I was going downhill again. I got another shot of Rocephin. I'm just ready to be over this.

Thanks for the replies.

So sorry you have had such a hard time. My son did as well, but is feeling great now. Hang in there and try and rest up. Let us know how you are getting along.

Also, my son was off his meds for 2 weeks and had no flares or stomach issues from it. Hopefully you will be back on Humira very soon!
