hello I am currently "undiagnoised' but myself as well as my GP both feel stongly that I have crohns. I deal with intense abdominal pain in the middle and in lower right off of belly button. Sometimes to the left of belly button to as well as nausea and vomitting and weight loss. I had only being have muscus and undigestied food in my BM but now it does have blood in it. The probably lies with the GI first off, he did both upper and lower scopes -- found polyp in the upper but he said they were fine iother than that. He also did the small bowel follow through whcih one appt he told me showed inflammtion then the next appt he changed his story to it showed nothing. The insurance denied my GP trying to push the pillcam and the GI does not see it as necessary......so I dont know if he will push it or not.....whats a good way to get this done? I dont want to change GIs unless I have too been trying to get a real answer for 4months now

Hi, what country are you in? US? (answers to questions about insurance and whether you are able to ask for more tests, second opinions, etc. and on what basis will vary depending on your location).

Did your GI suggest what he thinks might be causing your problems if not Crohn's? Bleeding and weight loss are serious symptoms and he should not be just dismissing them, though usually having both upper and lower scopes would detect Crohn's if it's present.

Were biopsies taken during scopes? Sometimes while things look clear at microscopic level they can detect crohn's and microscopic inflammation.

yeah my colon was ok as to what he said....It didnt start passing blood until Sep 26 which was a couple months after the scopes.....he did a sbft and he told me in pne appt that it showed inflammation and then changed his story in another and said it was ok. He told me last appt that the only reason why he at first tried the pillcam (back on July 30 after scopes) was because I had D well that kinda went "away" for a little thats only because I was having major problems with constatpion. I had one day where I called their office having had D for 3 days straight. I have it today too.....and like I said now it has blood mixed in....though not near as bad as on the 26th of Sep.....hoping when I go on Oct 8 that I can get him to push the test with the insurance especially with the blood. Well :p this test is getting done one way or the other. I have family/friends that have offered to help pay for if insurance continues to deny it.....so it is just getting the GI to do it......and if he still refuses come the 8th then it will be bye bye to this GI and I will be finding a different one.

I think you should get a different GI, if you can.

What is the blood like? Sometimes things like haemorrhoids can bleed a lot, and you wouldn't need a pill cam to diagnose them.

If you do decide to pay for the test, just be aware that you may end up feeling like you wasted the money if you get a normal result and are no further forward. I'm in the UK and have the NHS so I've never had to worry about financial costs, but I did experience a lot of normal or negative tests, even when I was convinced a test must be going to show something because my symptoms were so severe. I learnt that you can be very sick and have very severe/abnormal symptoms, but still find tests that seem certain to detect problems turn out to be the wrong tests after all.

I really hope you get some answers, but diagnosis can be a frustrating process sometimes.
