Poll on Safe Fruit

I do well on grapes, bananas, and strawberries, but definitely not raw apples, which is a shame because I love them!

i love all fruit. im supposed to be on a low residue/fibre diet but i still eat all the fruit and veg. dont know if im doing any harm.

i think bananas and the melon without the seeds through it would be ok.

Anything without a pit - so no nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums etc also No apples, pears cherries, mango watermelon or raspberries

I mostly stick with 1/2 cup a day of blueberries, strawberries, melon, banana, pineapple, or kiwi

Interesting on grapes don't the peels aggravate and what about the seeds in strawberries?

That's the odd part - I thought grapes might be an issue, but they're not. It was great to find out, since I'm kind of picky with the fruit I eat anyway and I was just relieved to find one I could eat. The same goes for strawberries, too. :soledance:

I am surprised so many others have a problem with raw apples too! I can eat one of those unsweetened applesauce cups OK, but raw apples make me double up in pain about 20-30 minutes later. I love berries, especially blue berries; oranges, tangerines, and banana's [if not too ripe]. I buy canned fruit in it's own juice and pour the juice off, then wash the fruit before eating it - that reduces a lot of the sugar. I am allergic to mangoes and Kiwi. Also, too much fruit at one time makes my mouth sore inside and sometimes break out in water blisters [as do sodas].

I seem to be fine with apples as long as I peel them.

I had a bad time with bananas strangely, even though everyone seems to rate them as good flare food.
Might try one again now I feel so much better.

I have been removing the seeds in bananas. Not sure if it's necessary and it eliminates so much of the banana.

I thought I could eat all fruit except citrus and strawberries/kiwis (allergy), but I learned the hard way that raw figs are really bad for me. I ate 4 and I am in so much pain.

bananas are safest.

BC strawberries seem to be just fine for me too. They are a lot more watery than their California counterparts which don't always agree with me.

Everything is safe but oranges and pineapple.
I remove seeds and skin. Low residue/fibre diet.

So far I cant eat any fresh fruit at all. Canned fruits such as peaches, pears, apple sauce, and sometimes pineapple are ok. I ate a couple blueberries the other day and it was super owwie. I tried bananas and they were also a no go. GI says if its canned and not a citrus fruit and peeled it should be ok

For me, only pulpy, whole orange/grapefruit causes problems consistently. Otherwise, grapes--and its juice--causes problems when eaten/drank within a 1/2 hour of eating other foods.

Wish this thread had been around 2 weeks ago... My son requested that he try a raw apple and it took him out for 3 days!!! Poor kid LOVES raw apples:(

He seems to do ok with bananas, pealed peaches, cherries in moderation, BC strawberries in moderation (can't do California strawberries), watermelon and canned pears.

I am so new at this!!...I didn't even think that fruit could cause issues. Hmmmm. How would I know if something isn't right for me to eat? Symptoms? Of course I am on prednisone right now and nothing seems to really be bothering my guts at this moment.

hey, if nothing's bothering you then run with it! You'll know if something's not right if it doesn't feel right. Generally that means cramps, long bathroom times. But don't stress yourself if things are fine. Enjoy it :)

Very interesting that both Tummyache and rxgirl have an allergy to kiwis! I also have an allergy to kiwis and find it rare to find someone with this allergy, I wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye.
Also wanted to add a lot of my meds inform you not to have any grapefruit so I tend to stay away from most citrus fruits
#1 fruit for me though are bananas! They're especially helpful at taking away the after taste from Flagyl or Prednisone when they disolve before you have time to swallow (I'm sure you all know this horrible experience all too well!)

I am able to eat apple (Green Granny Smiths) as long as they are peeled and grated - I often grate apple into my morning oats to give it extra moisture and taste.

Also have a half a banana most morings sliced in top of my oats.

Safe for me: Blueberries, raspberries, cherries, mango, blackberries, and anything that's been put through the juicer.

Unsafe for me: Bananas (caused episodes of acid reflux), strawberries (they HURT and do not digest), pineapple, grapefruit, oranges, grapes, apples, and anything else with a skin like nectarines, plums, etc. All of these are okay though if I juice them (well, I haven't tried juicing bananas, but the rest are fine!). Except for grapefruit, which as someone else mentioned can mess with various medications, so I don't dare juice or eat that.

Omg cat I thought I was the only one with acid from bananas. I still eat then but have no clue why they do that. It's immediate and not lasting so not terrible.

I can't do orange juice because it gives me major acid reflux.
