Hi everyone. Ive just got back from having my 2nd colonoscopy which thankfully was a lot less painful than the first. Afterwards I was told that they removed a polyp, and i was wondering what this is and is it serious or a symptom of something? They also took some samples from my small bowel and did a series of biopsies along the way.

Hope you can enlighten me on the subject!

Thanks,

Paul

Polyps are benign growths in your intestines, though it does increase your risk of colon cancer - not by much if there were very few and you don't develop more. These polyps are pretty common, much like diverticulitis of the intestines. (Though as a warning polyps can be cancerous but the chances are very very slim, I am sure they will send them for testing.)

So I recommend not sweating it at all. It is pretty routine stuff.

Thanks a lot, put my mind at rest there, had seen a lot of posts on here mentioning them and thought it was really serious. Nice to know its probably nothing to worry about
