I've never had an abscess or any other thing like this happen before, so I'm hoping you all will be able to help!

Quick background: I've been in a flare since July when Humira started failing, currently on Entocort, started methotrexate yesterday, and waiting for Enytvio to (hopefully) kick in, and recently finished up two rounds of Medrol dose packs. I'm down about 20 lbs and in general feel pretty bad.

This past weekend I noticed pain in my lower, inner, left butt cheek when using the bathroom, and on Monday the constant pain started. It's now to the point where I have a severe burning feeling when I try to put pressure on it when I sit, and the feeling is also there but not as severe when standing. When I checked things out, there was a rectangular strip a skin a few inches long that was inflamed, and also some hardness. As of now there is no pimple-like head that I've read about for abscesses. I also wear semi-thick liners 24/7 due to the mucus I've had since the flair started, and they've caused irritation before but not this bad. My big concern is that if I lift my butt a certain way to look at it, or press a certain part of the inflamed area, I get diarrhea-like leakage out of my butt. Just lift and it drips right on out.

I have an appointment to see my doctor on Monday, but if any of you could offer some advice or insight before then I would really appreciate it!

I'm glad you're seeing the doctor. My suggestion is sitzbaths.

If you start running fevers and have lots of pain give the doctor a call.

Yep, I am with DJW
spend some time in a warm/hot bath or I always like to sit on a heating pad if the bath is not an option. But if fevers start popping up its best to get it dealt with immediately.
It certainly sounds like an abscess/fistula. Good luck at your appointment. What kind of doctor are you seeing? In my experience seeing a GI is ok but a colorectal surgeon is better anytime it is abscess/fistula related. I would never see a regular doctor for this unless it is to get a referral.

Thank you for the suggestions. The heating pad is what's been getting me through sitting at my desk at work the past few days.

I'm going to see my GI; I've never needed a colorectal surgeon before so I don't have one to see. My GI's office is in a hospital though so I'm hoping that if he thinks I need to see one that it can happen ASAP.

I really, really appreciate you both taking the time to respond to my post, I am actually leaving the hospital today after being here since last Monday night and having a perianal abscess drained on Wednesday. So once again thank you!
