After spending the last 14 hours in the ER they came to the conclusion that I had colitis. Abdomen/Pelvic CT scan with contrast showed mild nonspecific colitis of the sigmoid colon and thickening of the terminal ileum. The ER doctor talked about possible UC or Crohns. I have a follow up appointment with my GI Doctor this upcoming week.

Current syptoms - mucus in stool, lower backpain, very soft stool or diarrhea, somtimes very thin, seems I always have the urge to go.. Stomach seems to be always upset.

ER put me on Cipro, Flagyl for 14 days, seeems to work.

Does this sound like possible Crohns.

Greetings and welcome. I'm sorry you had to find your way here :(

It's good that they're sending you to a GI, that's certainly a positive and I'm sure they will get to the bottom of things. It does indeed sound like it MAY be Crohn's especially with the terminal ileum involvement. Let's hope it is something more benign.

How long have you had your symptoms?

I wish you all the best!

That's a long time to have such symptoms, I'm sorry you've had to go through so much :(

I'm sure others will have feedback and thoughts for you. But again, welcome, and please keep us updated as to your progress and findings.

HI there :welcome: to the forum. The Ileum is the most common place for crohns. UC is the large bowel. Some have their opinions on UC and CD together but safe to say Crohn's colitis. Crohn's is from mouth to anus and it is very tricky to get a full diagnosis, some take years! My thoughts are most likely Crohn's but I haven't seen your biopsy nor am I a doctor. My sister has Crohn's colitis, my older brother has UC and the rest have a form of IBD and IBS. I have alot of your symptoms, and I am one who has never bled and had crohn's a long time. Keep us posted on your Gi appt and what he/she says. Welcome aboard!

Hiya Rbran, and welcome to the family. I am so sorry about your situation. Back pain and upset stomach are terrible to have to deal with all the time. But you're not alone. We're all in it together.

Hi and welcome! I also have an issue with mucus and the feeling I always need to go. To be honest, I think the two are related, at least for me. I'll get the feeling or urge to go, but I don't have to. But, usually, when the pressure feeling gets bad enough, I will pass mucus apart from a BM. So, I have determined that the mucus causes that got to go feeling, but most of the time, there isn't enough mucus in order to pass on its own. But, regardless of what causes the sensation, it is very uncomfortable, isn't it?

Good luck with your scope on Friday and keep us posted!

Hi Sarah...Welcome!

My experience is a colonoscopy is only as good as the amount of biopsies taken and the eye of the doctor to see/detect issues. My 1st GI only took 3 biopsies which in retrospet never showed me the extent of my disease. My 2nd GI took 9 biopsies which showed the extent of the disease clearly.

Cipro and Flagyl are 'heavy' but common antibiotics prescribed to kill off bacteria.

Muscus in your stool could be many things, chances are its not Crohn's tho.

Sounds like you are being treated for a Bacterial infection, but which one?
Bacterial infections, such as those from Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, and Yersinia, may cause mucus to be passed in the stool. A bacterial infection may also cause symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Some bacterial infections may resolve on their own without treatment, but some cases may be serious and require treatment with antibiotics.

IBS and UC can cause mucus issues as well.

If your stomach is upset all the time as you say, you may want to re-evaluate your diet. Perhaps, you can consuming "trigger" foods that is causing your upset.

I hope all goes well...
