After my CT Scan I had bad diahrrea and abdominal pain when I was fine for 2 days before my scan. This diahrrea and pain started 30 minutes after the dye was injected. Could this be caused by the dye for the scan?

Also after the scan the technician asked me how long I've had the pain and I said 5 months. And she said "That sounds about right". I wonder what she meant by that comment but didn't think to ask her at the time.

Hi. I'm afraid I don't know the answers to your questions. I want to send you my support.

Yes the dye can cause symptoms but they should go away. From what I've read though those are common symptoms for ingested contrast, not contrast injected into the vein. Both links talk about injected contrast reactions but neither mentions diarrhea and abdominal pain as a symptom. http://allergies.about.com/od/medicationallergies/a/rcmallergy.htm

"Adverse effects associated with oral/rectal administration are limited because gastrointestinal absorption is very poor. Transient diarrhea and abdominal cramping may be reported..." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2014815/

I'd let your doctor know about your symptoms.

As for the technician's comment, I have no idea. They don't read the results, a Radiologist does.
