Hi All,
I have just been discharged from my first hospital admission with Crohn's, my doc started me on 6mp & Pred 50 mg and i have only been on it for 3 days and it has made my D much worse, can anyone tell me how long it takes to get into remission & for the D to STOP, 3 & a half years is a long time to have D for & ive had enough.

Not a happy Lady at the moment:thumbdown:

It isn't normal for either med to make your diarrhoea worse. So either it's a coincidence, and it's something else worsening your D, like maybe the change in diet between hospital and home, or just the different surroundings (my first time in hospital I did not poop the whole 5 days, then when I came home it had to come out :) ).

Or you could be suffering a side effect of one of the medicines. I would guess at the 6mp. What dose have you been started on? It seems to be better tolerated if you start on a small dose and gradually increase. With azathioprine (sister drug to 6mp) it helps to eat plenty when you take it, and you can also take half your dose in the am and half in the pm and that helps you to tolerate it better too.

As for getting into remission, pred normally kicks in pretty quickly- you should feel relief within a few days to a week. So any time soon!

I agree 100% with everything Rebecca said. I also changed your thread title to be a little more descriptive so others might offer insight too if it catches their eye, I hope you don't mind.

I hope you feel better soon!
