Prednisone causing swollen fingers

Hi everyone, I just had a question about a prednisone side effect I’m experiencing. This happened last time I tapered off of prednisone as well. Basically I’m getting swollen fingers and occasionally elbows. Usually my fingers get worse during the day regardless of what activity I’m doing (I’m a student and have a lot of essays to type). At the end of the day my whole left thumb is so sore and swollen I can’t really move it. All of my other fingertips also swell, but my thumb is the one that’s causing the most concern. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to treat this? My gp and specialist have suggested fish oil tablets and panadol osteo (slow released paracetamol), neither of which seem to do anything. I’ve also just been put on Vitamin D/ Calcium supplements and am getting a bone density scan done next week as well as a blood test to check pretty much everything.
Heat helps the pain a little, but not the swelling. It just gets sore again really quickly. I’m currently on 200mg of Azathioprine, and only 15mg of pred (for some reason this happens every time I taper down to 15mg, and it will continue until I’m off of it entirely). Any advice would hugely appreciated! It’s very difficult to write essays when I can’t move my thumb!
