Prednisone Hunger

Hey guys,

We all know that prednisone can cause a pretty big appetite change. For me, the last 2 weeks, has been a double edge sword. I've been able to eat enough to keep my weight steady but lately I have gotten to the point where even if I am full, I am still hungry. I will eat to the point where I make myself nauseous. Anyone else experienced this?

YEP.

Sure enough. Usually when I am on low dosages though. Like NOW.
I've put myself back on liquids for the most part though. I have to control this beast. I'm putting on weight.

I do the same thing on Remicade.

Last night, for example, I at 4 slices of pizza from Papa John's. Strangely, their pizza doesn't mess me up as bad as somewhere like Pizza Hut or Dominoes. But right after I inhaled the pizza, I was craving something else, even though i knew if i ate anything else, i would literally pop.

Prednisone is my biggest problem with crohns disease. I am so worried about weight gain and puffiness while on that evil drug that I tend to eat very little. It seems no matter how little I eat the weight never goes down. My last taper started at 60 mg.

its weird because i had about 6-8 inches resected about a month and a half ago and it came back. The prednisone has kind of been a blessing (giving me an appetite) while being a thorn in my side (sleep loss, bad attitude issues). I cant wait until they find something as effective but without all the side effects (entocort doesnt work well with me btw)

I have gained weight since starting it, and all my weight is gong to my boobs! LOL I think they weigh 10 pounds each! They actually HURT cuz they are growing so fast! Argh - and summer is coming - I am NOT gonna look good in a cute little t-shirt.
I just figured I was hungry cuz I felt better, but sometimes I just can't get full.
I am happy that I feel healthy but JEEeeez - I don't want to gain any more!
Maybe we should start a pred/remi/I feel good/don't gain too much thread.

Yes but just do what you can. I get like that on a high dose, get better as I taper and then once I am down to like 15 mg I do it again.

Also,...yes the remicade...suffice it to say my chipmunk cheeks are here to stay for a bit. *SIGH*

yes, this hunger/appetite increase has been a nightmare... been getting a little better, cant wait til pred is entirely out of my system.

Yeah, I'm hoping that on my appt on Friday, my doc will tell me to start tapering off the pred...that would be awesome.

I'm there too. I'm so pissed off right now at how much weight I am putting on and my mood swings. I' made another thread earlier telling the whole story. :ymad:

AHHH i feel ya! thats exactly what happend to me when i gained weight in a snap. i couldnt fit those suckers into a spaghetti strap tank top all summer. and swimsuits. ugh good luck with that

It's been differento for me. I've been so hungry ever since I stopped taking pred. It's driving me crazy. How long until I go back or feel normal again?

I eat like crazy but I'm happy, finally I'm back up to the 120 lbs mark:biggrin: ! Gotta say that is alot better than when I was down to 97 lbs! I crave different things all the time tho and that is a bit annoying.
