Hi all, I'm wondering how often your kids are being prescribed prednisone in a year. My GI dr is considering it for my son(13) again to bring flare up back down but this will be 4 times on it this year. This seems like a lot to me.
Please share-thanks

So far this since my son's diagnosis in early February he has been put on it twice. First time to bring inflammation in his gut under control, 40 mg for 5 weeks and then tapered by 5 mg per week. He is now on prednisone again to bring inflammation in his hip under control and is on 30 mg for 1 week then taper by 5 mg per week and holding at 5mg for a while... exact length was not determined.

Sarah was never on it but that is because she was diagnosed on the operating table.

Matt was on it once for about 12 weeks.

meds, meds and more meds!!

Just got booked to go to the Pediatric GI division at children's hospital for the 17th of July (6 hours drive away!) to switch up the meds. We have been advised to consider the following 3 options as the next step in my sons treatment. 1-another round of Prednisone, 2-switch his Immuran to Methotraxate (sp?!) or 3-try Remicade. My son has a few other issues that factor into the decision making mainly he is hyper-sensitive to pain, ADHD, ODD, Generalized anxiety disorder, Hypo-thyroid, Asthma (in remission :)), and on and on....
So what are peoples thoughts, experiences and advice?
I thank you all for sharing it is so very, very helpful :)
