For EN they have thought of reasons why it seems to help for crohn's disease.

I think it's great if people have strictures, since it's low in fibers right, well it's absent of fibers really.

But it works in people without strictures too, and studies have tried to guess why.

-it's low in bacterial content
-it's low in microscopic antigens
-it modulates the intestinal flora

They're weird explanations I feel. I wonder sometimes if it's because EN use medium chain triglycerides for their fats. I know my EN uses it, I think most do.

Crohn's disease shows lymphatic drainage issues, which would benefit from fats in the form of medium chain triglycerides, EN has those instead of long chain.

EN nutrition is also low fat, it's high carb, and the only fat they have is almost always in the form of MCT.
