I googled if ducolax will cause pain and found a ton of people saying it was the worst experience of their lives and they were in extreme pain (some even ended up in the ER it was so bad). Cold sweat, vomiting, extreme cramping, one passed out from the pain.

Anyway, I was suppose to take this drug a few hours ago but what too afraid too and now I won't be taking it all. Any chance a clear fluid diet for two days and an enema right before will do it? I will not be taking the ducolax so if the clear fluids and enema won't be good enough, I'll cancel the colonoscopy.

I am not sure of what the answer is but I wish you the best. Your title said Probably shouldn't have. Are you referring to googling dulcolax? Have you talked with your doctor about your concerns?

Is dulcolax the lonely clean out med they gave? Generally there is movicol, picolax, Golightly or miralax. For my son's scopes the prep is miralax and dulcolax but not the dulcolax laxative just the stool softener.

Is there an on call doc you can call to advise?

Ya I was referring to googling ducolax. I talked to my Dr about my concerns for the exam and if the ducolax would be painful and she said it wouldn't be at all. But judging from the hundreds of reviews I've read about ducolax she is dead wrong. I would say 100% of people who are not constipated (which I'm not) ended up in severe pain for hours including vomiting, nausea and cold sweats from the pain. About 70% of the people who were actually constipated had the same reaction. I have EXTREME anxiety when it comes to any medication and seeing that 100% of the reiviews I've read from people who took it for prep have had horrible experiences, I'm thinking my doctor has absolutely no idea what's she's talking about. 👎

Ds had ducolax from age 7 on .
He has had 6 scopes so far no issues
I have used it for routine colonscopy no issues.
He also used miralax with it .

Good luck

I can't do any of the drinks for clean out. I've had two failed attempts with those. I throw them up long before they have time to work. I was suppose to take one ducolax tonight and one tomorrow night then do an enema an hour before the exam. The ducolax will no be happening.

Realize the Internet is select groups
Mostly people who are having issues are reporting on it
Not the large percentage who didn't

Nothing to be concerned with
Mag citrate causes cramping and lots of belly pain
But not ducolax
Easy

Miralax isn't a clean out drink like goltytely
It's an osmotic so just majes the stool softer
Ds takes is daily
Little kids use just miralax over three days very mild

Theres no way I can take it. The thought of taking it has me in sweats and stressed right out. Will the clear fluid diet and enema be enough or should I cancel?

I've done the dulcolax prep and the dulcolax miralax combo preps 4/5+ times and they are by far the easiest prep I've done. I have a very temperamental/sensitive stomach and I throw up any other prep but I haven't had any issues with that one. I have all those side effects you've listed normally and I don't notice any increase of them while prepping, maybe nausea but everything (literally) makes me nauseous so that's not saying much lol I wish you luck if the clear liquid & enema works!! Hope your able to do the scope and things go smoothly :ysmile:

Oh! I just remembered that my last scope the dr. Wanted me to do the muviprep? Yeah no way, I did the dulco/miralax combo and was much happier and not sick through it.

did you also search for people that had NO issues with dulcolax? just because people had pain with dulcolax doesnt mean that was the reason they had pain, it could have been a coincidence. You'll definitely find reports of people falsely accusing the drug for their pain only to find out it was actually something else causing pain yet they failed to update that because most people don't like to admit they were wrong. having said all that I've taken dulcolax as a laxative before without any problems at all.

They are just probably listing all the possible side effects.

Mag citrate...... Ugh :puke_r::runaway::eek:utahere::voodoo: I think that about sums that up. :rof: crap is disgusting!!

I took the pill about five minutes ago. My anxiety is through the roof. I can't stop crying and shaking. I think I might have a heart attack yet. 😞😞😞

Thanks! Unfortunately I won't feel better until I'm sure the pill isnt going to hurt like every review says it will. So anywhere from 6-12 hours I guess. I can't stop shaking and can barely see through the tears. Anxiety disorders are not very much fun either. 👎

Maybe watch a show or movie to try and not think about it as much?
And no they aren't, my boyfriend has pretty bad anxiety also.

I'm watching a movie I like. It's not working. I think I'm just doomed to feel like this all night. Have you taken ducolax?

I'd say period cramps. The weirdest feeling I get with it is after a few hrs and things are halfway through its mostly liquid and for me on my lower left side I can feel the liquid collect kind of and then slowly move through. Probably because it's a bit swollen in there, it's not painful just an odd feeling.

I dont think there is a prep out there for a colonoscopy that is pleasant or pain free.
Having worked in a GI office a clear liquid diet and a fleet enema will not clean you out well
enough.
How about asking your Dr for a CT scan? I had one with and without contrast. I did have to drink three jugs of something but much more tolerable.

Good luck

Lauren

I recently had an MRI I know it's not the same but I REALLY a enjoyed that test! lol. I'm still completely freaking put waiting for the pain to start. Period cramps would be tolerable but from what understand in the reviews is that many people have even gone to the ER the pain was so intense.

Tots- since you worked in a GI office have you heard any feedback about ducolax and pain/vomitting?

Its been a long time but, I was in charge of instructions for the patients and honestly never had that and os complaint. It was always the gallon of GoLightly (sp?) that patients complain about. I myself found it was possible to throw up and drink at the same time.

I wish you luck and will be thinking go of you!

Let me know how it goes, I am usually up until about 3 am, if I am lucky

Lauren

I'll likely be up all night from my anxiety over this tiny little pill. 😱 I'll be on all night probably. Lol. I'll be sure to update as things start happening....or hopefully not happening. Haha.

Just feel bad for you- I finally asked my dr for help with anxiety-best thing I ever did for myself.

and just so ya know- when I was in the hosp a few yrs ago i had to prep for the colosscopy, the nurse would not leave me alone about the prep. Mind you I was on a liquid diet for about 2 weeks, I couldn't eat with out bad things happening to me, so i dumped most of it down the drain. That was my version of hiding the pills people pretend to take!!

Normally my anxiety is under control. I've had anxiety for years and have learned quite a few coping strategies. The only time it gets the best of me now is when I have to take any medications I've never taken before.

Is 6:30 now and I'm sure it's the ducolax that woke me up. No pain but don't think I can leave the bathroom for awhile. Lol.

As it turned out, I left the bathroom in a few minutes. Five maybe? And haven't had to go back. For all my fear that this would be painful it wasn't at all. Now I'm wondering if it's even doing much of anything at all. Lol.

I never had problems with that prep. Obviously the pooing a lot sucks but, you have to ask yourself if you want to feel better. because doing the prep well is the only way they will get the answers you need. That's what I tell myself every time I get frustrated with all these preps for MRIs CTs and Scopes.. I want to get better. I want answers. So you better bet I'm gonna do the prep the Dr wants me to and do it the best he's ever seen.. I'll have a squeaky clean colon if that's what he wants.. haha

I did the prep they told me to do exactly how they told me to do it and it failed. What a waste of time and money! Had to get a hotel for two days for this exam and it never even happened!! Not impressed one little bit. The specilaist apologized a few times for his staffs incompetence because they didn't give me the proper dosage. So didn't eat for 2 days, drove four hours and spent hundreds of dollars on a hotel for a test that failed. :( 👎👎👎
