I tried Align with really no significant change. The nutritionist at the G.I. office recommended Sustenex - which is somewhat better - a bit stronger than Align. Do you take Probiotics? If so, which one do you use?:confused2:

My site was www.VSL3.ca if you are from the states, it could be .com Some people from the states get a double dose and get it a script from the doctor , but NOT in Canada..:(. Check it out!

I used VSL 3 and it made me REALLY ill. Be careful with it. For some people it just makes them worse. :(

The probiotic I use is called:

Udo's Super 8 Probiotic

It is kept in the fridge. You can buy it from Wholefoods and Planet Organic. I do actually notice a benefit with this, which is incredible for me because normally probiotics make me feel MUCH worse when I've used them in the past.

Good luck!

My gastro just recommended Florastor but in a minor act of rebellion I instead ordered the Jarrow Formulas S. Boulardii. Hopefully my desire to NOT pay a lot of money for another medicine doesn't bit me in the butt!

thanks so much for the response - going to whole foods today and will check these out! I will not be able to get a prescription for a probiotic as of yet - not until I have my Endocscopy and Colonoscopy scheduled for next week - but right now I am recovering from a sinus infection and need the probiotics to take with the antibiotics. Thanks for the info - appreciate it!

Hi there!

I also take probiotics, but I use a dissolving powder I put in my water. It's technically for little kids but it works! They come in little packets and you just pour them into a water bottle then shake! Super easy, relatively cheap, and my doctor recommended them for me. If you drink that water throughout the day, you should be good to go until the next. However, I'm not sure what the name is seeing as I threw out the box, but they're most likely in the supplement/ dietary isle of your local shopping center, pharmacy, etc.

Hope this helps; God bless!

I just started using Natren probiotics (Healthy Trinity). I had been using others, but read that Natren was really good. They have to be kept refrigerated. They have a really good website (just Google Natren).

I make my own yogurt and use that as my source of probiotics. Much stronger than most OTC capsules with the exception of VSL3.

I have been wanting to start taking probiotics, too, but the "good ones" are too expensive for me! I have looked at VSL3, and they are pretty expensive. Are there any probiotics that are effective, but cost less than $20 for a monthly supply?

I just started using http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-D...G8FS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302414495&sr=8-1 which is $23 for 90 capsules using the subscribe and save method. It has 13 strains of bacteria, minerals, and iron, and delivers 15 millions cells daily. My old probiotic was a natural stores brand and had 4 strains and delivered 5 million cells daily, but was the same price. I'm not sure if there is a positive effect yet as I just started taking it less than a week ago, but I don't think it can hurt. Is VSL3 really that good? It's crazy expensive... I feel like the one I'm taking is supposed to be one of the best but it's not nearly as expensive!

@supercellbaebe - Do you know why a probiotic would make someone feel worse? Do you think it's just the fact that there could be trace amounts of dairy remaining?

I used the Primal Defense a few years ago. I think it works pretty well as a digestive aid. It was recommended that I take it for 2 months then go off of it for a month, then back on and repeat the sequence. Unfortunately, after I was off for a month, I never restarted.

I was also on Renew Life Ultimate Flora (where do they come up with these names). It is enteric coated and is supposed to allow the probiotics to survive digestion in the stomach. This stuff is relatively expensive but not as much as VSL.

I use Jarrow EPS, Jarrow IBS, and Jarrow S. Boulardii + MOS. I take one each of the first two per day. These are Institut Rosell strains at a good price. The S. Boulardii + MOS is, I find, too effective in that it makes my stools harder slightly. I take this one only once a week, though I will likely seek out another S. Boulardii supplement. Right now, these are 30% off at iherbDOTcom (as a PSA, Support Local Foodstores when possible!)--get the big box of EPS, for sure.

I reccomend Sugars That Heal by Mondoa to introduce you to MannanOligoSaccharides, whole aloe supps, and glucopolysaccharides.

A small human study I saw this afternoon showing blueberry powder was able to boost beneficial gut bacteria. I've often thought that blueberries helped my gut health - when eaten in moderation. To many, and I think the fiber from the berry can do me in!

"Blueberry powder may boost beneficial gut bacteria: Study"

A daily drink of juice containing wild blueberry powder may boost the levels of beneficial bifidobacteria in the gut, according to new study with human volunteers.

I take Garden of life primal defense.
It is kind of expensive and REALLY hard to find in Toronto but I swear it works for me
