Hi all a little bit of help please! Son is 15 and having to take oral antibioitcs again for an infected toe (ingrowing nail that is coming off next week) and they have a bad effect on his gut.

Thinking a probiotic would be beneficial and but he can't swallow those huge capsules. What could we do?

Also has anyone used probiotic pearls?

So fed up of one problem after another as is he...

Thanks

DS takes vsl#3 DS ( which is prescription packets ) daily but the normal vsl#3 is either capsules or packets over the counter- most pharmacies carry it behind the counter .
He has taken keflex twice for skin infections plus multiple rounds of abx for strep
So far so good .
Good luck

Have tried the ccfa technique for pill swallowing?
I taught DS to swallow pentasa /asacol capsules at age 7 using it.

Jamison makes probiotic "sticks"-little packets of fruit flavoured probiotic powder. It can be poured right onto the tongue, or mixed into some yogurt, etc.

Our health store has chewable probiotics. Also when taking antibiotics I tend to rather give my son bio-yoghurt every day rather than an actual tablet. Don't know if it's just luck, but he has been okay
