I was started on Pentasa a little over a month ago. I felt better before I started taking it. Since them my BMs have changed from maybe a few in the AM to randomly throughout the day. They are somewhat urgent, and now I can't really plan around them anymore. I have developed extreme fatigue, to the point it is making my work difficult. The most alarming problem I am not sure is actually related to it is I thin my pancreas has become tender. It almost feels like an upset stomach but not really my stomach. It's more behind there and goes to the back. If it gets pressed on or my belly gets shook up it will hurt for a few hours at least.

I called the doc's office to report these and say that I feel worse on the meds than before I started taking them. My assumption was that, at the very least, they would just change brands for me. Nope! They basically ignored my concern about my pancreas, and told me to keep taking Pentasa. Then, they added Budesonide into the mix. I didn't catch what it was until I went to the pharmacy to pick it up. I don't understand why they would decide to throw a steroid into the mix. I really don't want to take it because I hate being on these types of meds. They just make me feel like crap. That's just going to add to the Pentasa effects.

Is it normal for doctors to do this, just throw a steroid med at you when the Pentasa type meds are giving you problems? If you were in this situation would you start the new med? Would you continue with the old one? Don't get me wrong, I make my own decision on what to do. I am not asking anyone to tell me what to do, just to share your thoughts and ideas. I'm going to call them again on Monday. Too bad this all took place Friday because I won't be able to get a response 'til then anyway.
