I noticed a new drug for RA called Orencia... I was wondering if maybe it will be expanded to being used for treatment of Crohn's... as most other TNF blockers have been... like Humira and Remicade.

Interesting prospect? Maybe?

It could possibly be used. I haven't checked it out yet but since it seems that a lot of the new drugs we are getting are TNF blockers I could easiy see in a few years we will be able to use it. Thanks for letting us know about the new drug.

Katie~ Good thought! I was also curious about the posibility of Enbrel??? Or are we already able to take Enbrel. My friend who has Crohn's might be trying Enbrel.

Speaking of new drugs (altho this may be old news to some of you, under some other brand name perhaps) did anyone see the info from the Mayo Clinic about certolizumab pego therapy? It's another TNF blocker they just tested.
Their stance? It's another alternative to those with IBD who've stopped responding to other forms of treatment. And, the dosing regimen is more patient friendly (whatever that means - it could mean fewer side effects, or a less strict delivery method required - i'm just guessing, they didn't say)

So, is this old news, new news, or just one of those... I wish they'd told us enuff to know whether it's worth getting excited over or not sort of things?
