Hi

I recently had my 5th infusion of inflixmab and about half way through started getting itch and a rash developing all over my body. On my previous infusion i had it done over 1 hour and i was fine compared to the 3 hrs it would normally take on my first 3 infusions. The infusion was stopped. My GI called and suggested we move over Humira. I would have thought we would try Infliximab again at the slow rate before trying another drug? has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

Also me and my wife are planning to start a family, does anyone know if infliximab would be a problem when trying to start a family?

Im meeting my GI in a couple of weeks to discuss the next move

Cheers from downunder

Hi

I also had a reaction to infliximab and was put onto humira which worked for a longer time than the infliximab. With both I think you are able to start a family in pretty sure of this, but if I'm wrong then someone else on the forum will say :)
The reason the dr might want to change you over is if you are building up antibodies to the infliximab it might start to lose its effectiveness and also lead to a bigger reaction next time you have an infusion. Humira is a lot more convenient as you can inject yourself at home I used to have humira once a week and it worked pretty well. Good luck with whatever you decide to try

i have been having the infusions and on the normal rate i get the rash itchyness and sometimes a temp. My GI suggested tel-fast and I went to a slow rate (40mls and hour) takes all day but i get no reaction or slight rash which fades away as quickly as it comes

hope that helps

Remicade should be given over at least 2 hours. Who ever gave it to you over one hour was either uninformed (I'm being nice) or in a hurry to get you out of there. I have been getting Remicade for 10 years now and have never had any reaction. Did they give you a Benadryl before your infusion? I get the benadryl and two non-asprin (tylenol), they also give me an infusion of Hydocortisone. The family part I do not know about that, I'm to old to think about us having another addition. Read all you can about what the Dr wants to give you, this forum is a Great place to learn.
