Have been diagnosed with chrons going on 4 years now recently have new pain near my tail bone but feel like its inside after xrays cat scan and blood tests doc has no idea whats causing the pain in that area.

I had a very light pain there once. At first I thout it was the tail bone but later I found it moved left or right near that area.
It went awat after a couple of months.

Yes its still hurts much worse then anything else I have ever had with Crohns, I saw my doctor he did X-rays, CAT SCAN, Stool sample, blood tests Said he couldnt figure it out. Told me to see a hypnotist to try and get the pain under control.. I am going to a new Doctor today, to get a second opinion Currently I'm taking Humira, Methotrixate (more shots), Pepcid, Folic acid, Levbid, and Ultracet for the pain.. Was On vicitan but makes me sick.. I have never had to go to surgery or anything had a fistuala 5 years before being diagnosed after perforated appendix.. I'm more the type that just always has diarhea 5-12 times a day real good days only three and stomach pain before the new pain I think I was in a flare up throwing up alot and going near 20 times a day some worse. Only thing that seems to slow it down is to not eat except one small meal funny thing is I have actually gained wieght since being diagnosed.. Just worried that if it is Coccydynia that they wont be able to do anything about it and tried of not being able to even sit in front of the computer and type have to stand sometimes laying on my back even hurts especially without the ultracet- I can barely walk and I told the doctor if my wife and I didnt just have a new born in November I wouldnt be able to get out of bed... Started Methotrixate 3 weeks ago (scares the crap out of me) we want more kids someday but immuran to scary to take while on Humira..

I've had this for yrs. Recently so bad I've missed days of work. I have UC but the tailbone pain could be from AS..Akalosing Spondylosis..spelling??
Anyway, it's painful for sure. There are no tests really to do to see if you have it but it's more common among men, and if you have a good doc, they can pretty much go through a good physical exam and narrow it down. I'm on Humira now and seems to help.

I had similar pain and it was an abscess. I had surgery to fix it and the surgeon excised it. There was a huge 3" wound left after the surgery but has healed well without any issues. There is a much narrower cut left now after 2 months since surgery. Glad it is heading in the right direction accept that I didn't anticipate it taking so long to heal but as per the surgeon it is fine.

Glad I got it taken care of early because my surgeon was saying that it was forming multiple tracts

I have been dealing with pain in my tailbone area for at least 2 years. I had a total proctocolectomy in 2004 and everything has been great since then...until a few years ago. I started having this intense, constant dull pain in my "rectal" area (which is impossible since I no longer have a rectum). I have been to the ER so many times and it's so frustrating. They have no idea what is causing it, I have been scanned so much I'm surprised I'm not glowing. They just give me 3 days worth of pain killers and send me on my way. Now, I'm starting to think they just think I'm "drug seeking." The pain is worse with activity, I can't work out. Sex is the worst...it's very painful. The only thing that the scans have shown is an area of "tubual structures" which they say is like scar tissue left over from the surgery. I am beyond frustrated...no one knows what is wrong, I think I'm crazy. Does anyone know what is going on?? I can't keep up like this, it is really starting to impact my life and I have two little kids to keep up with. I really need some answers :(

I'm just wondering, is that pain increased from sitting, contracting your buttocks, etc?
I know I have sacroillitis and it also come with pain in my tailbone on occasion, well, the whole sacrum and surrounding.

Are you taking any medication for your crohn right now? If they are related to inflammation these pains are suppose to get better with the use of biological agents.

Could be your sacroiliac joint. I have very bad pain there when I am flaring and get stiffness where I have trouble bending over. Inflammation from the intestines spreads there. I am actually just having an X-ray of my sacroiliac done today and had some blood work to check for evidence supporting ankylosing spondylitis.

If you have pain and stiffness there and other joint pain, it may be worth a trip to a rheumatogist as well.

Thanks for the replies! It's definitely worse when the muscles are tense (buttocks are contracted) but its actually better when I sit or lay down. Walking around irritates it. I am not currently on any medications for the Crohn's...my surgery pretty much "cured" me. I haven't noticed any other joint pain, but I know that can go hand in hand with Crohn's. I thought my days of "embarrassing" doctor and ER visits were over. Nope, nothing like being a 35 year old and having to go to the ER and tell them about your rectal pain when you have no rectum. And, you always end up with the hot doctor too....

OMG, the hot doctor... it gets worst and worst with time it seems. Being 28, this is becoming more and more frequent when you encounter the ones that just seems to be done with their studies and are the same age as you... Kinda mess with my brain sometimes xD.

I would dig in direction of sacroilliac issues. Mine are still tolerable but I hate when it happens... sometimes its dull, sometimes it's kinda intense... As Nims said, a rheumy could be quite useful with these problems.

In all cases, before jumping to medication, if ever it is directing you towards these kind of diagnosis (arthritis of some sort /joint inflammation), I would tell you encourage you to look into physical therapy at first.

How would you qualify your abs strength? Mine, since surgery (I don't have my colon either, still have a rectal stump though), were pretty neglected. I've started working on them in the past month and so far it helped me a lot.

Do you see a pattern in your pain? Is it the same all the time or is it worst at certain time during the month? Also, would you describe your general flexibility to be superior to "miss and mister everybody"?
