Exactly one week ago I went in for a bowel resection, surgery was long but surgeon said everything went well. They did the resection and repaired a fistula. Day after surgery I'm feeling pretty well and nurses urged me to eat since on my chart it said I had no diet restrictions. At this point I still had not passed gas. I ate about half a peanut butter jelly sandwich but then was too bloated to finish. Then saw the doctor later that day and he said to stick with clear liquids. So I did this, and I was drinking a lot because I was worried about dehydration. At this point I still had not passed gas.
A few nights after my surgery I woke up and my heart rate had spiked and I started feeling extremely nauseous, then proceeded to puke up a bunch of blood and ended up needed a blood transfusion.
So yeah at this point I'm still in the hospital, have finally passed gas, and am taking it slow with the liquids until my bowels wake up more. I'm just so worried at this point that some damage has been caused by the events the other night, and eating solid food when my body wasn't ready. I have no clue why my doctor went about things the way he did since he's otherwise a great doctor, but now he's definitely advising me to take it very slow. He doesn't seem to worried about possible damage, says my labs are coming back fine, but I'm still pretty worried. I've been getting a lot of cramps too but I understand that that's normal for after a bowel resection? Sorry this is so long, I'm just so worried that I'll have to go thru another surgery or something.
