Hi!i guess it pays to start and the begining.... Had an abcess on and of for approx two yeard. Didnt cause too much bother. Lots of discharge began and really wasnt sure where coming from. Gp wasnt convincef of the places i said it mite br coming from. Gyno said dermititis. Pottered along till a weekend away on a boat when got really uncomfortable. Ended up a gp late sundsy nite and given antibiotics. Cut a long story short including 2 extremely painful incisions to drain and ending up in hospital. Dignosed with CD and 2 fistulas. Had one laid open and a seton in the other! This was the most painful thing i have ever expetienced! Was told to go home and take panadol! No no no, ended back in hospital and given morphine, endone and oxycontin! On remicade by then and healing very well! (invest ina donut pillow!) had 3 infusions and tje seton removed the day after the third. Seton was in for 3-4 months. Still was draining a little bit when removed. Still taking flagyl now (2 weeks so far). I have a few questiond......
1. How long does it generally take for the fustula to heal taki
Remicade?
2. When will the leaking stop?
3. What signs to i look for to know it is healing? Thanks heaps everyone out there! I didnt realise there were so many people out there gping thr the same thing!!!!

Hi Mooch
Glad you found us :) Yea, unfortunately there a lot of us fistulites! I hope the Remi sorts them out for you. Mine are internal so I can't really answer your questions but someone will. Have you been over to the Fistula and Abscess subforum?

Hi mooch! A donut is a GREAT investment. I have three.

I'm not sure how long it takes for Remicade to start healing it, but I think it varies on the person, and your other medications. It could take months. It could take weeks. I'm going on Humira, which is similar to Remicade, and my doc says that if my fistula starts healing, I'll notice it within a month or two.

Leaking should stop when a) the fistula has closed on the opening that goes to the bowel, and no more poo juices secret out. b) when the fistula tract has healed, so that it isn't a raw, red tunnel of blood.

Healing sometimes involves itchyness. Eventually, you'll notice less drainage. The fistula might start getting narrower.

Keep us updated on your progress :)

Hi and welcome. I don't have any personal experience with Remicade, but I have read other people who reported fistulas closing up only days after their first dose. However, treatments work so differently for each individual.

Have you checked out the Remicade Club? I bet you'll find it very helpful, and if you post your questions there, I am sure you'll get a good response.

Hi Mooch!

I don’t really have any better advice than what you have gotten, but I just wanted to say hi and welcome! Hope you get your fistulas under control permanently soon. Remicade is the best! :)

Thanks for the replys! Just waiting now for the fistula to close, feels ok but its all i think about! Have a clinic appt next week, so docs should be able to tell me if all is good!
