My doctor recently told me that they want to start me on a Remicade, Humira, and Azathioprine treatment plan. I have been taking Humira for about 9 months with great results. At my most recent appointment the doctor suggested that I start the combination treatment of Remicade and Azathioprine in addition to the Humira injection. I have not been able to find any information on the internet for treatment using all three medications at the same time.

Is anyone currently on this type of treatment or have any knowledge of this treatment process?

Thank you!

I'm currently on Remicade every 7 weeks and Azathioprine 150 mg daily. I wonder why a doc would prescribe 2 biologics at the same time. I can see 1 biologic and the Aza at the same time but not 2 biologics.

Are you sure they wanted you on both at the same time? That's the first time I've ever heard that combination mentioned. I've heard of one biologic used in combination with Methotrexate and 6MP but never two biologics together.

The only information I was able to find about the two being used together was this:

Also tell your doctor about all the medicines you take. You should not take HUMIRA with ORENCIA® (abatacept), KINERET® (anakinra), REMICADE® (infliximab), ENBREL® (etanercept), CIMZIA® (certolizumab pegol), or SIMPONI® (golimumab).

Talk to your doctor again and find out for sure. Also ask them for any studies about the two being used together before going through with it.

They give you the azathioprine along with remicade so your body doesn't create antibodies to fight the remicade.

My doctor to try all three at once. I understand the use of Azathioprine in combination with remicade or humira. I've choosen to stick with humira and azathioprine, since I haven't had any flare ups since starting a year ago. My doctor has asked me to learn about the Sonic study and has no problem with me getting a second opinion. Thanks everyone for your input. Crohnsforum.com has been so help in the last year!
