Hey everyone, I'm newly registered here and have been reading a lot of great, useful information. I'll give a quick rundown of my goings on with Crohn's. I was diagnosed in 2004 and flared 2 to 3 times a year until late 2007 when I was put on 6mp and as a former smoker (quit in 2001) my dr said give that a whirl again. Between the smoking and 6mp, I found myself in remission from May 2008 until the end of June this year when I decided I hated smoking enough to quit again, but what a great 3 and a half years it was!!! I've been flaring since I quit smoking which was to be expected. After many trips to my gastro he finally decided last Friday that I needed to have a colonoscopy which I had yesterday. In July 2010 I had just a routine colonoscopy in which he could not find any trace of the disease but yesterday he said it "looked like World War 3" up there. He's suggesting Remicade because the disease is clearly progressing. I've read many threads regarding the benefits but it still scares me. My father was on it for years for R.A. and ended up falling very ill due to an opportunistic infection a few years back. Does anyone have any information regarding negative experiences due to the use of Remicade? My Dr seems to think that because I'm young (32) I should not have any major issues. I appreciate all replies and information.

Hi Ryan welcome to the forum! :bigwave: I am surprised your doctor says because you are young you shouldnt have issues, as you know this disease does not discrimminate against young or old or the drugs. I agree if you are fit and eat well you have a better chance than most. Remicade was not my drug had a bad reaction but so far I havent seen anyone else with my reactioni. Everyone is different, and if you need the Remicade go for it, you are closely monitored. You will be needing a TB test prior and blood work as a guideline to see how you react.

Just beware of instand craving for cheese :lol kidding. Many people here to help you. Good luck and keep us posted !

Hi Pen Thanks for the reply. I did all the blood work after my scope yesterday since he's pretty determined to get me back into remission. When I saw him Friday he said "well thanks for ruining my weekend, you were doing so great" lol. I believe he isn't too worried about the bad effects of Remicade because I'm younger but who in the world knows? I have my reservations because of my father's adverse reactions. Gotta think positive I suppose!
