Hi, I've been dealing with SIBO for five days and I started Rifaximin today. Took my first dose(400mg) in the morning and now my symptoms got worse(mainly increased diarrhea). A year ago same thing(SIBO and rifaximin) happened to me and I stopped rifaximin(xifaxan) due to same problem after the first dose. Is this normal? Will diarrhea and other increased symtoms settle down in 2-3 days after antibiotic usage? By the way, I'm using probiotic tablets 2 hours after rifaximin.
Thank you for help.

I stopped rifaximin, My doctor started me Flagyl. With Flagyl(3X500mg), when will improvement start?

I wonder if you could be experiencing bacterial die-off. It can cause some unpleasant symptoms like diarrhea and bloating. Antibiotics in general are well known for causing diarrhea. It's bad to stop a course without finishing it as you could develop antibiotic resistance, where the bacteria are no longer sensitive to that particular antibiotic. I would give your dr a call for reassurance.
