I'm planning to get my dog tested to see if he would pass the aptitude test for further training as a Mobility Support Sevice Dog. When I'm flaring and weak or dizzy, he automatically comes to my side so that I can use him to steady myself.
Sooo, just curious if anyone out there has a service dog for their IBD issues and what their individual stories are..?

My wife has one because she is in a wheelchair but I have heard they have service dogs for those wuth Crohn's disease.

I have joked before about how my dog must be a service dog! He sticks to my side on my bed, he normally lays under the duvet with me by my stomach but in a flare its like he knows and discreetly lays by my feet and is no trouble. He doesnt even get excited for "poopies" as usual when we get up, he waits and sticks by me while i or someone takes him. And he quickly goes, rather than enjoying a good nose about in the garden. I honestly couldnt go through obstructions or flares without him.
If they are officially a service dog, do they get to go in shops etc or anything?

Yes, They can go anywhere if they are a service dog. My wife's service dog has a tag that he wears which identifies him as a service dog and that allows him in anywhere.

Thats an awesome thing to have in light of everything going on in my life right now, I got a yellow lab pup, I named her Charli. Already at 4 months she knows the last 2 weeks have been very rough on me and she stays much closer than usual. instead of sleeping at the end of my bed she right up against my back etc. She is he sweetest thing and I am so so happy to have her.
