Should I Give Humira a Shot

My crohn's has been really bad lately. :poo:
Both my parents and my GI doctor are leaning towards Humira.
I'm just wondering if it's really worth it.
Some people tell me that they had a blood curdling scream for the first few tries of using it, but others say it hurts no more than a crohn's flare. Others say that it's not that bad but it's still not worth it.
What should I believe? How bad is the pain? What are the best tricks to decrease the pain? Are there some important things I should know before I try the Humira?
Thanks!

My son is 19 and says the shots are painful (the med going in). The pain lasts under a minute. It's not painful enough that he isn't compliant.

He takes the shot out 30 mins before shot time and he ices the area he is going to inject. This helps some he says. He uses the auto injector.

Some of the parents on here have their children use the syringe type humira. The also have the GI px lidocaine and inject it with the humira to cut down on the pain.

C, my son, says he can't really compare it to a crohns flare since the pain only lasts a minute.

Distraction is also a good technique for the pain relief. Watching a favorite show during injection, etc.

DS is 11 and has been on humira since he was 9.
It hurts about 10 seconds per DS.
He uses the syringe
I add lidocaine to the syringe per his Rheumo
I ask him questions about things he has to think about
This keeps the 10 seconds of pain down
It really helps his crohns and arthritis
And
Works well

My daughters have both been on Humira. It does hurt, the med burns going in, but they both learned to dealt with it. It helps so much that they figure they'd rather have 10 seconds of pain every week than deal with pain every single day.

For them, the pain isn't enough to scream or even cry if that helps. My younger daughter was on it when she was 13-14 and the older one has been on it for the last few years (19-22).

We ice before and after the shot. We also do the shot while watching TV so they're distracted. Good luck!

I've been on it for a while. I find the syringe is better than the pre filled pen as it is controllable and the pen would nearly have me fainting the way I tried to handle the pain with breathing exercises! I sit in front of Tv and relax and I preferred doing it in the belly rather than thigh. It is sore but is definitely worth it. I used to get nervous and miss some injections and I could see a decline in health in that one week.

I just started Humira and last Friday was my second injection. First injection contained 4 shots and second one was 2 shots. Honestly, there is pain and you are going to feel it but at the same time, it's not too bad. I always think the pain of injection is much better than what I may have to go through if I don't give myself a shot and this helps me forget about the pain
