Hi All

My son has crohns disease aged 20 diagnosed at 17, ,i have another child is there any test that can be done to see if he has it as well thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. I believe symptoms would need to be present in order to give a diagnosis. Many people have a hard time getting a diagnosis even with rather obvious symptoms. If it were as easy as getting a simple blood test then many people wouldn't have to do multiple tests for years (some people do have to wait that long, my diagnosis took just over 3 months or so).

I know there are genetic tests that could be done to see if he is more genetically susceptible but it wouldn't be definitive. I've read about other tests they do as well but I'm not recalling any of them right now, sorry :( Talk to your GI and see what they have to say.

As they say it is hereditary, I have it...no one else in the family has ever been diagnosed with it...Even though in my heart of hearts I swear my father had either IBS or CD, but never was diagnosed...anyways, my son a few years back was having every symptom that goes along with CD, his doctor got us into a peds GI and they did a colonoscopy to see...thank the good Lord he does not have it, but I do believe they need to have some type of symptoms before they start with testings for it.

thanks for the replies, my mum also had CD and my son's GI after seeing him and examining him said at the 1st look he was 99 % sure it was CD my son has extensive crohns in 3 different places and is on infliximab after no other medication worked even with this he has been hospitalized 3 times in the last year

I have CD and was originally diagnosed with UC at 18. My sister has never been diagnosed. But, I think I remember my mom saying something about her having some stomach sensitive issues...
