I was just wondering if extreme tiredness is one of the side effects of Aza or if my son is maybe just tired because the Crohn's isn't under control? When I ask the nurses they say that tiredness isn't a side effect they expect but I am sure he wasn't this bad before he started.
Also wondered if it can cause difficulty getting to sleep. Have been debating changing the time of day he takes it, but I like him taking with his dinner as it's the biggest meal of the day. We are going into week 4 of being on the Aza.

Weakness is listed as one of the more serious side effects http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000602/. Even a pharmacist will have more info on side effects than any nurses. What has the GI said about it? Gotta have their input instead of the nurses. As far as insomnia goes, I don't see that listed but again, a pharmacist should know that as well. Sorry I'm not more help. I've never taken it before.

In addition to what Crabby said, other things can be causing the tiredness. But first, I want to ask if they're monitoring his blood levels regularly since he's just starting the Azathioprine?

Other common causes of fatigue with Crohn's Disease are vitamin b12 deficiency, anemia, and dehydration.
