I had a proctocolectomy with perm Ileostomy in Oct of 2009. Over the past month I was having major bloat, distention, gas and cramps. I was treated for SIBO. They put me on Xifaxan 200 mg 3 times a day, but amplified the cramps X 10. So they put me on Augmentin & Flagl. Relief after first day of taking meds.
Was on for 10 days. 3 days off meds and seems that the symptoms are reappearing. Not to a painful degree, but LOTS of gas!!! Will check in with my Dr. Monday morning. I am scheduled for MRI on Sept 20th. As i had a scope done in July.

Just wondering if any of you fellow Crohnies have had to deal with SIBO as an on going issue, or if it is rearing its ugly head and once it is successfully treated wil be a distant memory. (fingers crossed)

Thanks everyone.

I haven't had this before, but I am just wondering if you have been told to stick to a special diet? Because lots of foods can cause gas because they are hard to digest, so maybe they would contribute to the bacterial problem.

Hi Rebecca85

Thanks for the reply. So far the Dr. has told me to just stick with normal diet. After the MRI n the 20th things may change depending on if they find anything that could be contributing to the problem. Not taking anything for it at the moment. Will be chatting with my Gastro on Tuesday, to decide if we are going to put me back on something or trudge through until the 20th and see if the problem is visable on the scan.

Thanks again.
