some new findings
So I just received a new CCFA letter in the mail (wanting money for research of course). The letter was talking about Dr. Mazmanian, a microbiology and immunology researcher at Cal Tech, who was just given an award for his research on B. Fragilis and PSA combinations in animals to mediate the body's immune response to Ulcerative Colitis.
The basics of it are that the human body HAS to be exposed to certain types of bacteria in order for the immune system to work correctly because these bacteria release certain molecules as part of their processes that control immune system responses on the molecular level.
This is pretty exciting to see to be honest because we will see in the very near future a huge amount of research being done on bacteria flora in the gut and how it plays a role in IBD and overall health of the body. I think it has the potential to put scientists on the path to cure quite a few diseases.
