So, I'm on the Specific Carb Diet, SCD for short. I have a few questions for you!

You have any good seafood recipies you wanna share? Or any SCD recipies in general? Seafood is preferred, but I am trying to be balanced.

Is dark chocolate a bad idea? I guess I could live without it, but I'm curious. Also, instead of making my own yogurt, could I just use Activia?

Thanks in advance!

Ugh! I'm such a dummy! I just saw the Crohn's recipe section!

Well I only followed the diet for a week or so. But I can tell you the following:

- Chocolate is not allowed at all
- Commercial yoghurt is not allowed. You have to do it in your home and ferment for at least 24 hours. Activia is not fermented for that long so it still has lactose and it has Bifidus which is not allowed on SCD

You can check the below sites for more info and recipes; Kepp us updated on how the diet goes with you

Thanks for the info. Bummer, I was hoping to get away with dark chocolate and activia. Oh well, I still have my seafood! Yum!

As for the diet, so far so good... I had troubles the day before yesterday, but I'm pretty sure it was because of a bad pickle.

Lets see, I'm not on the SCD anymore but I do remember the diet pretty well and do recall it helped me a lot. I dont eat meat anymore (stopped recently) but when I did I just preferred baking Fish with olive oil and some spices like dill. Scallops are also easy to make and you dont have to put a lot of things on them that would make them illegal. You can steam yourselves some veggies like fresh or frozen carrots/cauliflower/broccoli.

For yogurt, the activia would most likely be illegal because of what is added or what remains in it, like lactose, fillers, etc. I'm not sure on ingredients completely but I bet it isnt just milk and starter. You really should try making your own 24 hour fermented yogurt because it saves money and seemed helpful when I ate it. There are cheeses you can eat on this diet too like cheddar as long as it doesnt have cheese so you dont gotta make everything yourself. I guess it is a hard diet if you are used to buying everything prepared.

You really cant eat chocolate or anything that tastes like chocolate at all on that diet. That aspect is pretty rough...although you can make your own desserts with honey and nuts which are in the actual book.

I tried the SCD for about a week, and then formed my own diet, inspired by parts of the SCD.

it seems to be a miracle for some people, and i'm glad that you have had success so far! it's notoriously hard to follow for an extended period of time, but you sound pretty motivated and excited about it, so you shouldn't have a problem.

As for fish, I LOVE fish. The rawer, the better (I don't suggest this though!) Experiment with different marinades (oils, vinegars, spices) or spice rubs and grill the fish, or broil it in the oven. Just be sure not overcook it and make sure that there is a little oil to keep it nice and moist. It's hard to screw up fish. My favorites are salmon with curry powder/salsa; halibut with cilantro/lime; salmon w/ lemon/olive oil/pepper; ahi tuna with wasabi; and salmon or tuna with sesame oil/ginger.

Those fish ideas sound good RHOV!

I have done well on this diet, I was just hoping for a little bit of leeway. Maybe when I'm in remission...

So far my saving grace are the Peanut Butter cookies, I made some last night, and I refrigerated them. They are so good!

An alternative nutritionist I've spoken with described the difference between the SCD and some related diets - The Body Ecology Diet and Jordan Rubin's diet (with Jordan Rubin you have to be able to get past all the constant advertising of his own products on what seems like every other page of his books).

Something about the SCD diet being more specific in its approach compared to the other two.

i decided to eat soy and a few commercially prepared foods, so you should be safe with a little leeway once your symptoms are under control! do you use natural peanut butter? i seem to remember the scd book saying only natural PB w/ no additives or anything was allowed.

Yes, I use only natural PB, no additives. So far, no adverse reactions, so I think PB is good with me. Same for the certain cheeses I'm alotted.
