I was looking to see if anyone can shed some light on some symptoms i've been having.

My crohns is seemingly well controlled with aza and budesonide but twice i've had sudden episodes - about two months apart where my gut begins to feel off and then over a couple of hours it begins to bloat massively and hurt very badly. I then get a strong fever and vomit uncontrollably. This lasts for about 8 hours and then all dissipates.

On X-ray there was no clear sign of obstruction or twisting, and it has no relation seemingly to what i've eaten nor how much, but there was some faecal 'backlog', and i do suffer from constipation. The nurses feel this may be the culprit.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Have you been tested for strictures? Sounds like a bowel obstruction. Did you have pain that came and went every few minutes like contractions? If not an obstruction maybe something to do with your gut flora. Have you ever done a Candida cleanse?

Some stricturing is possible here. Those are the symptoms that I had with strictures. I still have narrowing in my rectum so I periodically get minor versions when things really slow down. Definitely mention to your docs. They may decide on a pill cam test.

This is what i have, and it is because i have strictures. The only way they found mine was tests like xray, mri (with laxative drink) and cat scan. I had a lot of "normal" results until some results finally showed up. Mine are exactly as described above with contraction style pains at the beginning, then constant pain. Upto 16hrs of vomiting, it does sound like what you get...

Thanks everyone, its really appreciated.

The doctor has arranged an mri in a month's time, but isnt too sure as all my inflammatory markers were normal, in fact quite low within the healthy range. The x-ray showed nothing and it had no relation to what i had eaten - i regularly eat a high fibre, high residue diet without issue.

Could it be that residue gets caught in a stricture and builds up over months? To be honest i hope it is nothing like that, i only just received the diagnosis and would ratuer not have complications right away...

When I was tested they gave me an upper GI and small bowel series which involved drinking a barium milkshake then laying on an xray table for a really long time while they took xrays every 10-15 minutes. It is pretty gross and scary to think about but you can get through it. As for how long the food is stuck...I think it just depends on the severity of the blockage. I've found a lot of advice on "Listen to Your Gut" if you're interested in treating your condition naturally.
