Yesterday I started on Humira. I had my loading dose (4 pens) in my GI's office so that he could show me how to do it and supervise me.
He did the first pen, into my belly. I did the next three, also in the belly area, three different spots. My GI suggested that my belly would be better than my thighs as he figured that my belly would have more fat on it - I don't weigh a great deal these days especially since the Crohn's has been doing its work. Also, interestingly, he decided that I didn't have enough loose skin to be able to pick up a patch of skin to inject into, so he told me to just put the pen against my belly firmly and push the red button.
Yes it stings when it first goes in, much like a bee sting. But again I was quite surprised that the pain faded quickly, and it didn't even leave any marks.
I'm going back to see him in two weeks time to have my first single pen, again with him supervising. I'm glad he is doing this, so that I can make sure that I'm doing it right.
So, I figure that makes me a member of the Humira club? Well, at least the very junior member....
I'm holding out expectations that Humira may be able to help me, it seems to help a lot of other people. But trying not to get my hopes too high.
