I'm off on holiday on 1st June and I need to get travel insurance. However as I'm currently still undiagnosed I'm not really sure what to tell the insurance company. I want to be completely honest incase God forbid I need medical treatment while I'm on holiday however all I know at the moment is that I have an ulcer in my terminal ileum and I'm awaiting biopsy results. Anyone know what I do?

It's years since I've been well enough to travel (no one would insure me now!) but from what I remember:

What country are you going to? I think going to countries in the EU is much easier. Have you been admitted to hospital recently? (They always asked that).

If you admit to having a pre-existing condition, diagnosed or not, you'll have to pay more. I was undiagnosed when I went to the US and had to pay over £100 to get it covered. More than one existing condition and it's hard to get insurance at all. (Again, this was based on going to the US ten years ago.) It wasn't a problem having an undiagnosed condition from what I remember.

I'm going to Corfu. I haven't been admitted to hospital, I've just been seen as an outpatient. Trying to apply online and I can't find an option for undiagnosed. Maybe I'll have better luck if I phone the insurance company.

I arranged mine by phone as it wasn't possible to do it by phone with an undiagnosed condition. They went through a set of questions about hospital admissions, whether I was waiting for tests, etc. It was much more complicated than the online forms, but meant I was sure I was covered for anything. I did this four times for four different holidays (I was undiagnosed for a very long time :p ) and each time the people I spoke to were always very nice and understanding - they did ask what tests I'd had and were waiting for, so I did have to go into some detail about barium enemas, etc. but they were sympathetic and professional about it. But I was going to the US and I think the healthcare system there makes it particularly hard to get insurance.

What insurance company did you go with? I'm looking at loads of different insurance companies online and they're all saying that they won't cover undiagnosed conditions :S

A slightly different tactic, not sure if it will work in the UK or not. In Canada we have CAA - Canadian Automobile Assurance. We were able to get trip insurance through them. Not necessarily great coverage, but enough if we needed it. Also, you can get at least some trip insurance when you book with a credit card here in North America. Both of these don't seem to be as demanding when coverage is needed. It may get you a little bit of coverage.

Shamrock15 I don't think either of those are options for me but thanks anyway.
Axelfl3333 thanks I'll have a wee look.
