Stoma 'seam'

I moved my stoma cleaning it and noticed the seam, so to speak, where it is sewn down, is bleeding and weeping. Not a lot but sort of like it is cracked around the join. I am not sure if this is normal and I just haven't noticed it before? Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks, Connie

Did it go on bleeding for very long? I find that, if I am not gentle with cleaning around my stoma, it can bleed a bit but 'heals' very quickly. The circle of skin directly around the stoma also gets damaged if the excreta, which can be 'acidic', sits on it for any length of time. This is why you need to have your base plate fitting really snugly or use something like paste or a collar to fill the gap.

Thanks Susan. I think the base plate was the problem. It seems much better now. I think I will try the paste.

Thanks again.

Mine's like that all the time. I can see little metal hooks attaching it to the skin, and it bleeds a little bit. Bleeding is normal. I'd only worry if you think it's changed significantly from how yours normally is.
