Stopping antibiotics, really bad decision?

Hi,

I'm new here, so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place. I'm seeking some advice. Sorry if the text is super long, I will try to explain my situation as detailed as possible, maybe some of you experienced the same as me.

On June last year my doctor found an anal abscess, so I started making exams to see what the problem was. I did a colonoscopy and a few other exams but the doctor still can't say if I have crohn or not, so I'm doing an MRI in a month or so, I'm waiting for the call.

On July my doctor said to start taking flagyl and cipro for 4 months. The abscess went away after 2 months or so but then after 3 months and a half, I stopped taking the antibiotics while doing the prep for the colonoscopy because I was really nauseous all the time and just could not take them without proper solid food. So I told my doctor I stopped and she said it was ok because it seemed cured and the 4 months were almost up anyway.

So I stopped for 2 weeks and the abscess came back again, so my doctor told me to get back on the antibiotics. So I was taking them for an additional 3 months and the fistula went away again. A couple of weeks ago my doctor told me to start reducing the dose of flagyl but as soon as I did that, the abscess (or fistula, my doctor uses both terms sometimes) came back, so I think it's safe to say that the antibiotics aren't doing anything to this thing. Obviously I'm not going to take antibiotics for life. She told me to go back to the old dose if it came back, so I did. This was a few days ago.

I've always had the nasty stomach aches, gas, nausea, etc as the side effects but 2 days ago it was one of those horrible days where the effects were too much so I just stopped taking them without asking my doctor like I did on the first 3 months and a half. I see now that I may have done a big mistake. I'm aching all over my body like I have a flu and I also have a cough, and I'm afraid it might not be a typical flu.

I've read that stopping antibiotics can cause some serious problems, but when I stopped for those 2 weeks last year my doctor said it was ok, she didn't seem worried that I stopped without asking her so I guess I thought it wasn't a big deal. I'm just so tired of taking these antibiotics for so many months and it's clearly not doing anything. I will probably have to do surgery, but to be honest I just want to stop taking them because I feel like I'm dying everytime I take them. But now I regret stopping because I just want to cure this thing and I may have done worse. I can only contact my doctor on wednesday so I don't know what to do now. Should I go back to the antibiotics right now, after 2 days of not taking them, or now that I stopped it's best to wait until I contact my doctor? :(

UPDATE: I'm still on antibiotics but after doing two MRI's the doctors came to the conclusion that I don't have Crohn and what I have is a small nodule a few inches above the fistula. My doctor actually said that they don't even know for sure what it is but it's nothing serious, probably something I was born with. I've done a biopsy and I'll most likely go to surgery to remove it.
