First developed Crohn's after an appendectomy and peritonitis. Had a section of small intestine removed due to a fistula.

No more problems there - so far.

Later had a hemorhoidectomy and developed chronic proctitis due to Crohn's. Have treated it successfully for 25+ years with 800 mg of meselamine 3 pills three times a day with increased doses during flair-ups and rowasa enemas.

Avoid dairy products, caffeine, alcohol or any food with gritty contents.

So far so good, except for a recent flair up which doesn't seem to be responding to the Meselamine.

Back to the GI guy for another visit.

Reading all these stories about people with Crohn's and very widely expressed symptoms involving the GI tract leads me to believe it is a genetic disorder controlled by multiple different genes.

I think the ultimate breakthrough will come through genetics and immunology.

I agree...:welcome: to the forum. I always have wondered why certain people get fistulas and others don't.....I hope you get some relief soon. Good luck at your next appointment.

Welcome to the forum Tgeorge. Anything is possible in a cure once they find the cause. I also agree with you.

I am agree with genetics along with Hormones... they still say it is a "young persons" disease. I am in less flares and less painful since I first got dx. They also mention different age times for major flares, so 50 is my next level but that is a couple of years off, and staying positive!

Well - I'm not worrying about that Jetta - cuz I'm "forever 39" ;o)

Welcome Tgeorge! Glad to hear you have had a pretty good run with staying quiet with your disease. Hopefully the doctor will get you there again. And YES...hopefully they will find a cure and SOON!!!

My first surgery was exploratory surgery and they took out my appendix because it was "microscopically" leaking.... if he had of went West, microscopically he would of saw the Crohns... moron. Which led me to a laproscopy resection and was good for 7 years.

Well my current flare came at the age of 51. I don't consider it to be as major as the ones I had in my late 20's and early 30's. I think when you have a flare-up in later years the biggest problem is the scar tissue and the fact that your body metabolism slows down so you aren't getting the full benifet of nutrients. Like we already don't have problems in that department.

Hi Tgeorge and welcome to the forum.

Question for you: When you say "chronic proctitis", what exactly are your symptoms? I am curious because the majority of my problems are in the rectal area.

Mine were 15-16, when it was first dx, early-mid 30s, and 51 (I think, not 50)

Wow! So close to mine! I had symptoms 15-16 and dx at 32 and not quite near the 50 yet. Well since it couldhappen I will get my self into shape and get the tummy tighter, it makes a difference if I have to have a 3rd surgery... still avoiding it at the moment.

Tgeorge sorry to hijack your thread, carry on...:sorry:
