ok i have never heard of this before but i was talking to someone who said you can have some kind of surgery where they take out something from your butt and you have like a minute and a half warnin so you can get to a bathroom if not you use the bathroom all over yourself.

I know this sounds disgusting and kinda embarrasing that im asking this but i was just wonderin if anyone has heard such a thing and if so explain please!?!?!?!?!

Thanks!:confused2:

I have never heard of "straight gut" do you mean "short gut syndrome" but that has to do with the removal of your small intestine and malabsorption.

Mommy...Maybe thats what it is. i just have no idea but what do you mean by malabsorption?

Kim...i am calm lol and i know that what everyone says is not always true bcuz thats what i told my fiance. i was just wondering what that was bcuz i had never heard of it before and im also just trying to get some thoughts together of what all to ask the doc. thanks for your help though :)

short gut is when they remove alot of the small intestine so normally when you eat your small intestines take most of the nutrients out of the food we eat but when most of your small intestine is removed then we can't absorb the nutrients causing weight loss, diarrhea and the inability to get all the nutrients that we need. Your fiance would actually have his colon (his large intestine) removed. Try the CCFA.org website if you haven't already they always have great info.

Mommy...ok thanks. So then would this apply to him if they are gonna take enough of his small intestines to make a new colon? or is it an actual different diagnosis?

It would be a different diagnosis I have had alot of my small intestine removed through three different resections and I don't have short gut syndrome. People are going to be very forthcoming with information because their uncles brothers mothers sister knew someone with the same thing so make sure that you write your questions down and take them with you to the surgeon when you see him best of luck to you and your fiance.
