Strictures - How do you know?

I didn't know I had any until they showed up on my small bowel follow throughs. I think my doctor could also see the narrowing when I did the colonoscopy. I always have diarrhea so I couldn't tell you anything about "symptoms".

I have a moderate level stricture in my terminal ileum. Sometimes if I eat a large meal later I will feel pain as the large bolus comes to the stricture. I especially felt this during a barium xray when I had to drink such a large amount of fluid, it was very painful when the liquid got to the stricture - which I could tell as they were xraying every 20 minutees and commenting about how slow the barium was moving at that spot. So its like trying to shove an orange through a straw.

If the stricture closes, you will then have an obstruction. I've had partial obstructions that have resolved. A full obstruction comes with nausea, vomiting and great pain and requires getting to the ER as I am told it will need surgery at that point.

Before the entocort, I did notice a change in BM to smaller, narrower shapes.

For me the onset of a stricture shows up during bowel movements, it literally just "jets" out of me. I can only think its like a pressure build up & then release.
That for me lasts a few months & then a gradual slowdown & finally the pain, blood & mucus. BM's then become very thin, pencil like.

I was just wondering on my report it said distorting colitis, i looked it up and it means twisting or out of shape, is this the beginning of a stricture

I dont think so no matty. That possibly could be "looping" something I've heard the specialists talking about.

I've just been told I have a stricture in my transverse colon and I had a feeling I did, I felt a pressure building up about half an hour before a bowel movement (for the last few months) and I was getting/still getting very bad abdominal pains. My doctor said I'll eventually need surgery on it. It's 11cm long. and yes I have noticed that my BM's are less well formed.
